Easy Hamburger Pie

Easy Hamburger Pie

Easy Hamburger Pie

This meal is a remake of a hearty beef pie that I loved as a child. It can be made with any vegetables you like which is a great way to use up left overs. Maybe we should call it Left Over Pie!

Ingredients:

1.5 lbs. ground beef
1 onion, diced
3 carrots, diced
3 celery stalks, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 can 8oz tomato sauce (or salsa, spag sauce, soup)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Salt & Pepper
Pie Pastry crust for 9” double crusted
1 beaten egg with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)- optional

Easy Hamburger Pie

Easy Hamburger Pie

In a large pan, cook ground beef, onion, carrots, garlic and celery until beef is cooked (10 minutes)

Drain and place in back in pan

Next, stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce and shredded cheddar in meat mixture

While the above is cooking, prepare pie pan by rolling out 1 pastry shell and fit into pie pan

Easy Hamburger Pie

Add meat mixture to pie pan

Easy Hamburger Pie

Roll out second pastry sheet and place on top, crimp edges and cut vent slits

Easy Hamburger Pie

Brush top and edges with egg wash (optional wash – helps with browning)

Easy Hamburger Pie

Then bake at 425 for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 and bake until crust is done – about 20 minutes

This can be made in 45 minutes if you have to cook the meat mixture. Also, I usually keep hamburger on hand that is already browned with vegetables. Using the freezer beef I can have this on the table in just about 30 minutes. Have you tried our easy hamburger pie yet?

This looks so good and really easy to make,I like that it’s made with ground beef. When i’m low on funds ground beef is first on my grocery list because it’s cheap and there’s so many things you can do with it..I’m definitely going to save this one.

This sounds like a good recipe to try. It wouldn’t be that expensive either so to stay within a good budget too.

I love hamburger pie. I haven’t had it in years as it is NOT one of my family’s favorites. =(
Too bad, or I would have made it regularly. Thanks for sharing your recipe, it is a bit different than mine. Maybe now that the kids are gone, I will try it on the hubby. Who knows, he may love your recipe. =)

Sounds good – although I am not sure i would make it – I have such picky eaters in my house that I think they would say, “What is that?” but it actually does sound pretty good. Thanks!

I remember eating this pie also.
I used to think that we were rich eating pie for our dinner not realizing how much we had to pinch and scrape by. Using up leftovers is such a wise thing to do in the days we live with so many doing without. I’ll definitely make this pie this week and make it a tradition with my family.
