Finding Favor With The King {Book Review}
One of my favorite stories from the Bible is about Esther, an orphan Jewish girl, who one day becomes a Queen who saves her people from destruction. I’ve enjoyed many books and several movies based on her life, and although not strictly the story of Esther, Finding Favor with the King, by Tommy Tenney, teaches how to use her tale to ready ourselves for the Lord.
Esther’s Ultimate Secret
“On that night . . .”–Esther 6:1Have you ever had a “that night” or a “that day”? A point in time before which things were going wrong, but after which things began to go right?
What are the ingredients for a “that night”? What is mixed into the recipe? Understanding what goes into creating that moment of divine favor was Esther’s ultimate secret.
She learned how to find favor with the king.
Favor is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
Success is what happens when preparation meets potential.
Many success stories begin with the phrase, “That night…” or “That day …” These stories often begin with fear but end with favor. Esther’s pattern of preparation teaches us how to create that moment.
Finding Favor With the King is critical to your future with your King. This book lays out the steps for you to prepare for your moment in His presence.
Can you imagine being Esther? A lonely girl who finds herself thrust into this situation, but somehow knows she’s meant to do great things there…and she goes on to being the reason so many of her kin are saved from a massacre.
How does this relate to us, as Christians, and our path to find Jesus and get to Heaven? The author provides 12 steps, called “Twelve Protocols of the Palace”, that provide a path or a layout of our journey. Esther could have chosen an easy life, or to displease the King or defy her uncle. Just as we can choose not to follow the Bible and not reach our heavenly Father.
The author tries to teach his readers how to be ready for these moments, these decision points, so that when our time comes, we are as ready as we can be. I found it an easy read, especially if you’re already interested in Esther. I think it’s easy to relate her journey to our own.
