I’ll let you in on a secret: we use garlic in our food like most people use salt & pepper. While there’s several forms of garlic, fresh garlic is the best kind in my opinion! But the downside is the mess, the effort and the odor that can soak into your hands if you aren’t careful. So I’ve put the garlic press and peeler by Alpha Grillers to the test!

– Easy to clean and totally dishwasher safeWait a sec.. If I can press unpeeled cloves why do I need a peeler??
Excellent question! The press works great on unpeeled cloves; however, it does required quite a bit more force to squeeze them though. Also, to get maximum yield you will always need to use peeled cloves. If you are looking to slice your garlic you will need to peel it first too!
The peeler is a snap to use. It’s a rubbery tube that you slip your clove of garlic into, and roll it back and forth under your palm on the counter. In just a few seconds, you can slip out the peeled clove as well as the skin. Then whether you use the garlic press, slice it or smash it, it’s ready to go!
Also included was the hinged garlic press. Now, you don’t have to peel your garlic to use this, but it makes it easier to squeeze (and clean out). You push the clove of garlic inside the “box” and close the handles together and press! The garlic will be forced out the small holes on the front so your garlic is minced and ready to be used. Then you open the handles and clean out any remaining peels or fiber, and you’re ready to continue.
I love that the garlic press is safe for the dishwasher. The ones I’ve owned in the past are hand wash only and seem to break down pretty quickly. And the peeler works like a charm every time. With a little hot water to rinse it, you let it air dry and put it away for next time.
Keep in mind that it can also take care of mincing your ginger too! Peel it first then add small chunks until you’ve got the desired amount.
