God’s Club {Movie Review}
I am so happy to discuss a new faith based movie that came out recently. God’s Club is a story about how the power of faith is tested. Would you think that a young teen wanting to get together with friends from school and study the Word be something so threatening that violence and legal battles are started?
As a Christian I have a hard time with this. I know what and why I believe the way I do, as I am sure others feel the same way about their beliefs. Why should one belief system be banned while another is allowed? One of my daughter’s dealt with this blindness at her work place. She worked for an international investment company and they adopted the equal benefits for partners stance and supported with financial and in time off from work the campaigns, marches, and programs of just about any alternative belief system that someone wanted to present to them for support.
Well, a group of ladies submitted for their own club. They were all straight, married and Christian. The SMC ladies were not only denied financial support, they were banned from forming or meeting on company property. How is that right? It certainly wasn’t fair – but at the time the ladies did not see away around the decision.
This movie made me cry, laugh and stand up and cheer all within the 90 minutes it was running. I will always fall on the standing up for what it right side of a fight…and this movie encouraged me to be more vocal and visible in my faith. My saying I am a Christian doesn’t take away from what you believe. Personally, I don’t care for any form of religion or belief system to be shoved down your throat. I believe that by living your faith system, you show others far more than you could possibly show by chanting, carrying signs or with violence.
I liked this film because it was about relationships and those are what makes the connections we need in order to share our faith in a meaningful way.
God’s Club is packed with an all-star cast including Stephen Baldwin (Faith of our Fathers), Lorenzo Lamas (WWJD What Would Jesus Do? The Journey Continues) and Corbin Bernsen (“LA Law”). I found the movie to be a strong message of inspiration and devotion.
It was not a surprise to read that The Dove Foundation, and given their highest, “five Doves” rating and celebrated the movie as “a powerful film” of faith.
Following his wife’s death, public high-school teacher Michael Evens (Stephen Baldwin) re-launches the Bible Club she originally founded. When upset parents cite the separation of church and state and want the group disbanded, a passionate dispute erupts and threatens to destroy their small Vermont community. With his job, personal relationships and even his faith on the line, Michael must make tough decisions about the things that matter most. Corbin Bernsen and Lorenzo Lamas also star in this uplifting tale of strength, unity and love.
God’s Club was directed by Jared Cohn and written by John Chadwell. It is a Studio City Pictures Production, produced by Jack Nasser, Joseph Nasser, and Durey Shevar. The family-friendly DVD will also include special bonus material, with behind the scenes features and hilarious bloopers.

I highly recommend this movie but would suggest watching it with your non-believer friends. I think this film can be an amazing springboard for conversation starters and a basis for opening God’s Word to share what the scriptures say.
You can purchase God’s Club on Amazon. It is available in a DVD format or online in the Amazon Media Streaming area.

Thanks for the kind comments about God’s Club. As the writer, it means a lot to me that someone comes away feeling the emotions I was going for. This film is truly a gift from God to me as a person who had a rocky journey to finding Christ, who, of course, was always there, but I was too blind to see. A lot of the characters, good, bad and confused are from my own growing Christian experiences. I’m glad you enjoyed it and have recommended it to others. Thank you.
