Special Presentation
World-famous boomerang expert and motivational speaker Gary Broadbent will make a presentation during Home School Day on April 7!Auditorium-style Presentations
There will be four separate auditorium-style presentations in the museum’s Carney Auditorium.Click on the following topics for more information:
- Fundamentals of Flight (9:30-10:30 a.m.)
- Boomerangs Keep Coming Back (11 a.m.-noon)
- The SR-71 Blackbird (1:15-2:15 p.m.)
- It’s Science, Not Magic (2:45-3:45 p.m.)
Subject matter is targeted mostly towards students in grades 5 and above. However, the entire family is encouraged to attend.
Take-home, hands-on extension projects will be distributed to those in attendance.
Seating in the auditorium will open no earlier than 20 minutes before each program begins.Hands-on classes
- There will be four separate hands-on classes in the museum’s Learning Center (second floor).
- This room has a limited seating capacity, so participation will be limited to youngsters of the correct age level only (no siblings or parents). Line numbers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9 a.m. on April 7 in the museum lobby.
- Seating in the classroom will begin 15 minutes before the class starting time. If space allows, those on a “stand-by” basis will be allowed in the classroom beginning five minutes before the class starts.

- Lasers and Optics (10:45-11:45 a.m.) – for grades 3 and 4
- Cryptology (1-2 p.m.) – for grades 5, 6, 7, 8
- Orbital Mechanics (2:30-3:30 p.m.) – for grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Guided tours
- There are two choices for guided tours: 10:15-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-2:45 p.m.
- Tours begin in Kettering Hall and are appropriate for the entire family (all ages!). The tour covers all areas of the museum, from the Early Years Gallery to the Space Gallery.
Storytimes
- There are three choices: 9:30-10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m.-noon, or 1:15-2 p.m. Storytimes take place at the entrance to the Early Years Gallery.
- Storytimes are for youngsters from 3 to 5 years old. One adult must stay with the child.
- Seating is limited, so each child may attend only one session (all three sessions are the same). The theme for each session is “Kite Tales. Sessions include a story and hands-on craft activity.
Scavenger Hunts
There are a variety of new scavenger hunts available! These are self-guided family activities. Materials can be picked up at tables near the entrance to the Early Years Gallery from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.Aerospace Demo Stations
Science, engineering and technology principles will be demonstrated at various stations in the center of the museum’s second building. Stop by any of the stations from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
