How Many Times Do I Have To Tell You? {Book Review}
Don’t we all say the same things to our kids? Like “I remember the day you were born” or “Hold my hand when we cross the street” or “Answer me when I call you!” I know I’ve said these things to my children, as I’m sure most moms have. But are we hearing God in our words? He’s talking to us too. Rachael Carman discusses this in her book, How Many Times Do I Have To Tell You?
Book Details:
‘I remember the day you were born.’
‘Turn down the music!’
‘This is going to hurt me more than it’s going to hurt you.’
‘Hold my hand.’
You’ve probably said these things to your kids, but have you listened to what you’re saying? In fact, your heavenly Father wants to tell you many of these same things. Rachael Carman knows how noisy it can be when you’re raising children — she has seven! But this lovely devotional book will help you to hear God’s still, small voice amid the chaos of carpools, cut fingers, and carpet crawlers. You’ll learn how to recognize God’s instructions for you, even as you seek to follow His example as a parent.
If we talk to our children this way, and we are God’s children, doesn’t it stand to reason that He’s saying the same things to us? Can you imagine Him watching over us, knowing already what the outcome of our choice is going to be before we ever make it?
He’s lovingly calling for us to listen, to follow Him, to hold His hand, isn’t he? The same things we probably say to our kids every day, expecting that they listen, yet we won’t do the same for our Father.
This is a great book that is broken into small sections on different topics or things we say to our kids. Through funny stories, touching examples, and Scripture, the author shows us how our heavenly Parent is trying to tell our hearts the same things we tell our kids. Each section also ends with a few questions or thoughts to consider, even journal about!
68 areas or topics that we all experience with our children are discussed. The one on “Get Busy” busted me. I know I stay too busy and should really look at my calendar. For me, keeping busy just seems like the norm with seven children, but if I look at my calendar from the view of my Heavenly Father… Is there time to visit a sick friend? How about a last minute call to help someone get to the doctors office? Is my calendar so full of things of this world that I have left out the really important things of making a difference in eternity for someone?
I think this is a great book for any parent or caregiver. It doesn’t take long to read and the information is easy to relate to.
