InStyler Hair Tools {Review}
Anyone who reads my posts knows we have a bunch of girls, not only in my house but in my family! And yes, they are always fixing someone’s hair or trying out the latest hair styling products and tools. So when the box with 3 InStyler hair tools arrived, it was like Christmas at my place!
Our box from Vocalpoint included 3 tools for us to try: TULIP Auto Curler, MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron and the Ionic Styler Pro. While these aren’t new to the market, I’ve never tried any of these products so there was a bit of a learning curve and trial and error (and lots of laughs)!
The TULIP Auto Curler was the one we tried the most, and it’s supposed to be great for curl whether you want soft and gently flowing curls, waves, or the tight spiral curves that every lady seems to love.
Since my eldest daughter helped me with using the InStyler TULIP Auto Curler, we read the directions first and watched the video online. So glad we did!
Once we unpacked the box and got it plugged in and ready, it took about 4-5 minutes to heat up so we could use it. Included in the box is a “guide” that you can feed your piece of hair into in order to make sure you aren’t using too much hair into the curler. Honestly, I only used this the first few times until we got a feel for the amount of hair that would work the best! You insert your strip of hair into the TULIP, make sure it’s between the grey dots on the front and touch the auto feed button. It instantly spins in the direction you chose and wraps your hair around the heated barrel of the iron.
Depending on the setting, you will hear several beeps (it’s the timer) and once you hear several quick repetitive beeps, pull the curler straight down and the hair will slide off the barrel and you should be left with your curl, whether it’s loose and wavy or tight and springy!
And that’s it! You complete the same process all around your head, and it took us about 15 minutes the first time to do my entire head. I was also using it for the longest timer setting, and you may not have to. Plus, with practice, I’m sure the length of time would decrease.
Here are a few of the features according to the packaging:
- Open ceramic barrel designed with anti-tangle technology
- Safety guard for burn-free styling
- 2-way rotation with 3 rotation settings to curl left, curl right or alternate
- 3 heat settings range from 350 to 430 degrees to accommodate all hair types
- 3 timer settings to achieve a variety of looks – beachy waves, soft curls and tight striking curls
Not only was the InStyler TULIP Auto Curler easy to use once we got the hang of it, I never got burnt. I hate using regular curling irons because of the burn factor (it never fails) but with the guard that’s in place, the barrel doesn’t get close to the skin. And the timer keeps track for me, so I don’t have to count in my head (we all do) or wait and see how it turns out. It also had a really long cord, about 6 feet long, so I wasn’t stuck right up against the outlet at the sink.
The only negative for me personally was the shorter your hair, the less effective this tool works. Because of the awesome burn guard, you don’t get all the way up against the roots so if you have shorter hair, this could present a problem.
But overall, I’d definitely recommend this product! It would make a great gift for the ladies and the box would fit right into a stocking (hint hint!).

Now, about the other products that were in our awesome package: MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron and the Ionic Styler Pro. We also tried these products out on various family members and each one worked better for some than others, but they were both great tools to have on hand.
First, the InStyler MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron; this tool combines a heated barrel that spins and runs the hair through ionic bristles to keep the hair separate and smooth.
- 2-way heated rotating barrel smoothes and polishes as it styles
- Black tourmaline ceramic plate smoothes without crushing, flattening or damaging hair
- Ionic bristles separate the hair and emit negative ions to close the cuticle, locking in moisture and creating healthy, shiny hair
- Wrap hair around the barrel to create beachy waves and texture
- Four heat settings up to 425 degrees
This worked better for those of us with thicker hair. I liked that you could change the directional spin of the barrel, depending in you want to add volume or smooth the hair. It also comes in two different barrel sizes, depending on if you have short or medium-long length hair.
Then we tried the InStyler Ionic Styler Pro; this combines a straight iron and a hot brush, which you can switch between with a flip of a button!
- Open to use as a flat iron
- Close to use as a hot brush to smooth hair and create volume at the roots
- Cool touch ionic bristles add shine and allow you to style hair without burning
This was great since the tip of the tool stayed cool and so did the bristles! Plus it takes the place of several tools which saves money and counter space in the bathroom. This worked better for the ladies with short-medium hair length and fine-medium texture. The flat iron portion worked fine for every type of hair we tried!
