Jo Frost: Nanny on Tour
I had mixed feeling while watching this show. Being the mom of seven, especially the mom of a blended family with a husband that travels all week..I just don’t get it.
Having a lot of children, I understand the frustration these parents feel. I certainly understand the frustration patrons in the restaurants, library, and even church feel when little ones act out. We have had to leave our share of places when one or more of the little ones had a meltdown. What I don’t understand is the parents letting their children behave they way they do – and then wonder why their children won’t listen to them.
The principals Nanny Jo teaches are solid and will work once you get your child’s attention. But you can’t “discuss” things with a four year old as they are on the floor kicking and screaming.
I look at our grown children and watch how they interact with their children. They have to deal with the same two year old meltdowns, the same issues with biting, kicking or refusing to get in the car seat..BUT they also know that for the most part, there is no negotiation or discussion. There is no need to raise voices or get all upset trying to deal with a two year old that doesn’t want to buckle their belt. Too bad, so sad.. END of discussion!
Maybe I am getting old. We have ten soon to be eleven grandchildren and I honestly was embarrassed at how these parents let their children behave. It wasn’t the children that needed a time out….it was the parents. Children act just like we train them.
Tonight was the kick off of the new UP series, Jo Frost: Nanny on Tour.
With four kids under the age of nine, it takes a village to raise the Whisonant family… but even that may not be enough. With two stressed out grandmothers, and a mom who copes with frenzied cleaning, this multi-generational household is having a hard time getting the kids under control.
In the show, Jo will be traveling around working with a new family each week that desperately needs help. Before she arrives, she will monitor the family’s behavior from her mobile RV office, via surveillance cameras which the family agrees to have placed throughout their home, and then will hit the ground running. Using a combination of well-honed techniques, sincerity, love and humor, Jo will pinpoint each family’s challenges and give parents practical tools that they can implement on their own. Jo will make sure each family stays on track with the homework assignments they are given and will rejoice in their progress and counsel them during setbacks.
