Little Me Event
Just before Thanksgiving, still a little too early… Our latest grandson decided to make his grand entrance to our world. The day started with my daughter calling me because she was feeling “strange”…hmmm strange and pregnancies go hand in hand so I told her to wait and see how she felt in a little while.
She was starting to have a great deal of pain in her back and the office indicated she should come in and be monitored. Off we went to the hospital. Phone calls made to put everyone on alert. Hours of monitoring showed constant contractions but no real change in her cervix. Not what she wanted to hear!
Then all of a sudden things changed. The nurse came in and said that she needed to adjust the monitors because the little one must have moved. She adjusted and adjusted…and then adjusted some more before finally reaching for the call button. As soon as she hit that panic button everything changed. Nurses were everywhere, all pulling, rotating, sticking and shifting my daughter. They called for the crash team and shoved me out of the away as they took off down the hall with my daughter crying that her husband wasn’t there yet!
Apparently they could not find the heartbeat on any of the monitors. Once they left the room, another nurse grabbed me and told me to “COME NOW”… Two nurses helped me get dressed so I could go into the delivery room as soon as they had the baby safely delivered. The nurse said that no one would be allowed in the operating room since this was an emergency.
Talk about scary! Here I am trying to get my son in law on the phone, knowing he is driving and not wanting to scare him but trying to tell him to GET HERE NOW… About the time he came running into the labor area the nurse came out to tell me that they had found the heartbeat again and that everyone could stop and take a breathe. So I undressed from the surgical garb while my son in law suited up and went in the operating room to be with his wife.
I am thankful that little C. was born healthy and that mom and baby have both recovered from their ordeal.
