Medical Advice On Your Busy Schedule
Do you struggle with being able to even find the time to call the doctor’s office? I do too. And don’t get me started on trying to remember to call them when they are open because I usually think about calling when I am getting ready for bed or long after office hours.
And trying to schedule an appointment that works with both their office times and my crazy schedule…nuts! This is why I like using Amwell for those issues that come up when I just can’t get to the office.
Have you heard about Amwell? No? Well let me tell you how cool it is! First, it is this nation’s largest “telehealth” (simply meaning online) company and connects users (you and me) with board-certified, licensed doctors for immediate and live, online visits. They are available around the clock and can be accessed both on your desktop or on your mobile device (through your camera).
So, my first thumbs up about Amwell is that you can call them just about any time. And if you know in advance that you will be up say oh at 7:00AM, you can book an appointment. For me, just clicking the button that says “See the next provider” is perfect. I am comfortable that all of their staff listed under category that I selected will be able to answer my questions and order medicines if needed.
The options for services include Medical, Pediatrics, Diet & Nutrition, Counseling ,and Lactation Support. They cover a wide range of services and you can have your visit from your home over your webcam or device.
Setting up an account is simple. Answer a few questions and then check to see if your insurance company will cover any of the visit price. Prices are super reasonable, ranging from $45 to $65 for the ones I have checked.
If you have health insurance coverage, simply fill in the information here and Amwell will process the claim for you. Your health care insurance provider may pick up part or all of the costs depending on your coverage. Call or log on to your health care provider to see what options you have available based on your plan. My personal coverage contributes towards a certain number of visits but each plan will vary.
To make an appointment, log in and select the type of services you are needing. They are all listed on the right side of the page.
Then you can select either the staff member of your choice or the date and time that is most convenient depending on your schedule. I do like being able to see the staff members background and specialties before booking an appointment. If the staff member you want to see is with another client, you can wait for them and the system will even text you a few minutes before your appointment to remind you to get back to the screen should you walk away or get busy working on something else.
When your staff member is ready, your camera will light up and you will be able to speak with them. Get comfortable and feel free to address your concerns. I recently called about a rash that was so itchy. It was nice to be able to show the staff member the area and let them know how it felt. I was asked to touch it with the back of my hand to see if it was warm to the touch. It was determined that it was most likely a contact rash and an over the counter treatment was recommended.
The best thing about Amwell? They have doctors available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are available to help with any issue — all from the comfort of your home.
I would recommend Amwell to both busy moms and those that don’t have a regular physician. Having the peace of mind of showing and talking with a physician sure beats heading to the emergency room or urgent care and waiting for hours. If your symptoms indicate more treatment would be needed than a video chat, the physician can recommend you to a local place for treatment.
Would you or is there someone you know that would like to try this service? Well worth the cost and you can submit to your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you some of the cost.
Make sure to connect with Amwell on any of their social platforms for more information. Having an account is free and what a comfort to know that help is available at a click of a button.
