MEL Chemistry Sets
If you’re a homeschool family like we are or you’re looking for educational activities to do with your kids, MEL Chemistry Sets is a subscription experiment/science service. They deliver a new box every week to complete 2-3 experiments on that week’s topic. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
At MEL Science, we have created a standalone educational package that will captivate the interest of your child by demonstrating the real science in all of its beauty and depth. The package consists of:
38 interactive hands-on chemistry sets;
Complementary app for smartphone or tablet;
Personal access to the website with fresh and interesting scientific stories.Unlike other products that are single-use, our hands-on sets, designed by experienced scientists, constitute a do-it-at-home yearlong chemistry course, which is both fun and engaging.
The sets will be delivered to your home gradually, in a subscription style, over the course of 12 months: three sets per month. Each chemistry set will contain everything you and your kids need to conduct 2-3 safe experiments at home.
The complementary app will serve as a virtual 3D microscope enabling your child to better visualize what happens in each experiment at the molecular level. And our website will let you find out more about the topic of each experiment, as well as answer all related questions.
MEL Chemistry is the first educational package that actually teaches you chemistry instead of showing tricks with a scientific slant.
As my homeschool kids get older, some of the “hands on” classes like the science subjects can get difficult to teach because so much of our study is either book learned or online classes. So I love that a company has come up with a subscription box service that allows us to have fun while also learning!
Now, do we break each and every experiment down and prepare for it for weeks, like some of the public schools do? Well…no. I guess you could, depending on how in depth you wanted to take the process. And I do like that we can visit their website or use the app for more information and interaction, especially if it’s a topic that catches their attention!
In today’s digital age, we have to work to get their attention and concentration. So the fact that they can complete these fun tests and watch it right before their eyes, it works with them on a much deeper level, than if they just watched a video or read about it in a textbook.
To get started, you purchase the Starter Kit, which includes the main equipment you will need to conduct future experiments. It contains things like safety glasses, disposable cups, syringes, etc. And the Starter Kit also comes with 2 experiment sets to get you going: Chemistry of Monsters & Tin.
Then within each experiment set are any specific items required along with instructions, pictures, etc. They tell you up front what elements will be involved, such as open flame, color changing, etc., as well as the amount of time, difficulty level, etc. There should be enough ingredients supplied in each kit to repeat the experiment up to 2-3 times. And the kits are delivered once a month, with 3 experiment kits included for the month.
Each kit should take approximately an hour to complete (could be longer or shorter depending on the age of the student and any extra work or research time). Plus you can cancel at any time in case your schedule changes.
