Noah: A Wordless Picture Book {Review}
I think most folks know the story of Noah, no matter their personal religion. It’s a tale that’s found in most cultures around the world! Mark Ludy has just released his new book, Noah: A Wordless Picture Book, which is a beautiful and thought provoking illustration to accompany the story of Noah and the Great Flood.
A hundred years before the Great Flood, a man named Noah came home talking crazy. God wanted him to build the biggest ship the world had ever seen. The future of humanity depended on it. How would his wife respond? What would the neighbors think? Was it even feasible?
This lavish reimagining of one of the greatest stories of all time will fascinate children and adults alike. Nuanced and playful, yet meticulous in following the biblical narrative, Mark Ludy’s world-class art digs deeper than the Sunday-school tale of cuddly animals, exploring Noah’s relationship with his family, the natural world, God – and a formidable engineering challenge.
Immerse yourself in this stunning wordless epic. Whatever your age, you’ll never read this story in the same way again.
I have to be completely honest here: I was blown away by the art work in this book about Noah. It’s not just drawings; these are detailed, colorful and capture the tale with expert skill. My son enjoyed the book simply as kids do, and we talked about the parts of the story that went along with the pictures on the pages. But I was lost in the art work, “reading” it several times without him.
We all grow up learning this story in church or Sunday school, so this is probably one of the most perfect gifts for the young people in your life. Or adults, especially those who enjoy illustrations and art! It can bring joy to many generations of readers, no matter their faith or language since there are no words to go with it.
Plus, as a fun little game, you try to find Squeakers, a little sketched mouse, on every page. And sometimes, he’s a crafty mouse to find!
About the author, Mark Ludy, he has written or illustrated 8 children’s books including When I Was a Boy I Dreamed and The Grump. These are just as fun and stunning as the book of Noah. We’re starting a collection this year for our library to share with our family and the grandkids as they come over to visit.
