Pressure Cooker Honey Glazed Ham
Honey Glazed Ham isn’t just for holidays! And the cheers go up around the world – or at least around my house. Now that I have broken through the barrier of using my power pressure cooker for things besides killer roast and awesome veggies..there is no stopping me. I am pressure cooking everything.
So how about a honey glazed ham in the pressure cooker? Yep, it is super simple and can be made at a fraction of the cost compared to purchasing one from the store. Now I will say this up front; I have not mastered the whole spiral cutting so if that is a deal breaker for you, then just stop reading now.
But if saving money and being willing to eat straight sliced honey glazed ham is okay with you, let’s do it.
Ingredients:
Heavy Duty Aluminium Foil
1 Quarter Ham (around 6-7 pounds) – Boneless (they are usually fully cooked)
1 cup of Brown Sugar
1/2 – 3/4 cup of Honey
1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
4 Tablespoons crushed Pineapple or canned tidbits with juice (if you like pineapple, just dump the entire can in)
1 cup hot water
Optional – Jar of cherries (my crew would revolt if I skipped the cherries)
Directions:
Gather your pressure cooker, meat rack, sling, and cutting board in your work area
Place 1 cup of hot water in the pressure cooker
Set meat rack (or crumbled foil balls) in place
Arrange sling or slings as needed (Not sure what a sling is used for? Here is how to make one)
Prepare the cooking pouch by lining a large bowl with aluminum foil forming an area to hold everything while cooking
Unwrap the ham (make sure to remove the thin plastic, paper like covering too)
Slice ham into 1/2 to 3/4 inch slabs
Arrange slices of ham in the bottom of the foil pouch
Crumble brown sugar over ham slices
Sprinkle the ground cloves over the brown sugar
Pour the honey over the top of the sugar and clove covered ham slices
Spoon the pineapple and cherries (if using) over ham
Draw the edges up and seal the pouch along the top
Set foil pouch inside pressure cooker (on top of sling), making sure sling straps stay along wall of liner towards the top
Fold sling ends over top of foil pouch
Lock and seal lid on pressure cooker making sure the steam knob and locking pin are in correct positions
Press meat button (mine defaults to 10 minutes)
Keep an eye on the unit while the pressure builds (you will learn the sounds the unit makes at each step and will be able to listen for the change from pressure building to actual cooking)
When the timer goes off, press the off or cancel button
Using oven mittens or dish towel, turn the quick release knob to vent (be careful – IT IS HOT – IT WILL BURN YOU)
Once the unit stop spewing steam and the locking pin clicks to release, open the pressure cooker
Using the sling straps, gently lift the foil pouch out of liner and place on oven safe dish (I like to move to a casserole dish in case there are any juices that leak out while unwrapping
Carefully open the foil pouch (there will be steam inside the pouch, watch your fingers)
Gently move ham out of foil pouch and onto serving dish or warming tray
Spoon juices over top of ham
This recipe is on the sweet side, so play with it and adjust it to what your family enjoys.
