HUGO – The Last Bully
How do you teach your children to respect others? What about bullying? Explaining to little ones can be a challenge. Books are often used as a bridge between parents and children, opening up the channel of communication.
This colorful book is all about the subject of bullying. It is a wonderful venue to help children and adults do what needs to be done about bullying – MAKE IT STOP!
The story line is designed to help children understand bullying. Why it’s wrong and why we should stop it from happening through learning respect for others! Bullying in schools has reached an all-time high. So much so, that states have enacted laws trying to protect people from it.
The Hugo series is a part of the PYP books (Primary Years Programme) collection. The PYP was developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) for students ages 3 – 12 and helps guide the development of the whole child both academically and socially. The series is a wonderful tool to help with the character education in children.
The Last Bully is about Hugo, a little starfish. He runs into a group of bigger fish that have the wrong attitudes – they are bullies! After watching one of his friends getting bullied, he decides that he has to do something. So he forms the Anti-Bully Club and works to teach the bigger fish a valuable lesson about respect. Within the group, Hugo and his friends show the bullies that there is always a bigger fish in the sea and that happiness comes from respecting others not bullying them.
What a cute little book! Our little one loved this story. He goes around quoting the theme, “RESPECT! Don’t bully! What comes around goes around and there’s always a bigger fish in the ocean!” Even our teens have started saying it. I love that this book teaches a valuable lessons about having the right attitude.
The book is large, with vibrant pictures that grasp and hold the child’s attention. The story line is along just the bottom of the book, allowing for imaginations to develop as you turn the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone searching for character stories for their children. HUGO makes understanding that being a bully isn’t right.
In the Hugo series, you will discover a lovable and engaging role model. Each book contains a themed vocabulary to introduce the Spanish language to the reader and also comes with a number of worksheets which are downloadable at no cost from their website.
