Snow Day Activities

Snow Day Activities

Snow Cream

Another snow day………say it isn't so…

Are you looking for ways to burn off energy with the children AND keep your sanity? At our house I tell the girls they don't get snow days since we homeschool; but we do switch to a half day school program because their friends are also out of school and will want to get together.

Their favorite way to spend snow days are at the slopes skiing… they would spent everyday there if they could get away with it!

Snow Cream

Today we made snow cream two ways! LOL… Now that wasn't the plan but I was out of vanilla so I grabbed the almond flavoring instead. Some of my crew were not thrilled with that flavor so back to the drawing board we went. This time I used the rum flavoring. Ummm, not what I expected and a but strong! Of course once the kids poured chocolate syrup over the snow cream it didn't matter what it had been flavored!

Snow Cream

The next time you are snowed in… make snow cream!

Ingredients:
8 cups snow
1/2 cup sugar (we used splenda)
1 cup milk
1-2 teaspoons vanilla (any flavor you want)

Directions:
Send your child outside to gather snow – remind them to get clean/white snow!
In a large bowl – mix the sugar, milk and flavoring together to dissolve the sugar
Fold in the snow and stir until blended (if it starts to get too runny, toss in freezer for a couple of minutes)
Serve in bowls topped with chocolate syrup or whipped topping!

We scoop leftovers into ball shapes and freeze to enjoy at a later time.

We had snow here in south Mississippi twice this Winter. It’s the first time in many years so maybe there’s a trend on. At any rate very “cool” activity for the kids on snow days.

What kid wouldn’t love this! I will try it next time we get snow. Since I live near seattle we might have to wait for “a one day a year snow fall” until next year!!

I have definitely never made food with snow before but what a fun idea! The kids would get such a kick out of this!
