Space Racers {Review}
Does your family watch Space Racers? Mine are too old for this program but my grandkids are the perfect age! Whether it’s the one being taught at home or those taught in private school, this animated science program is full of fun and learning.
Space Racers is a new, original, half-hour animated series for preschoolers that follows young spaceship cadets at the Stardust Bay Space Academy as they soar through the Solar System. Young viewers will learn about the power of scientific investigation and observation, the wonders of space exploration, and the importance of working together as a team, all with fun and engaging characters they can relate to.
The kids first discovered this program on Netflix actually, and then we also found it on the local PBS station. They each have their favorite characters, each of which are rockets/space jets, all named after birds like Eagle, Raven and Crane. Plus there’s cute music and the graphics are perfect for a space/science program!
I personally enjoy how Space Racers balances the cartoon/fun aspect that catches the kids attention but also teaches them about important topics like gravity, planets, space and more. While they will learn about these things in school, it never hurts to have a bit of a lead. And it gives their parents ideas of what to learn and read about next.
NASA serves as a technical consultant for science accuracy, so parents and educators can feel confident that what the kids are learning about is accurate and true.
One of my adult daughters has a kindergarten age boy that she’s homeschooling. The Space Racers program is part of their science class! The website offers lesson plans that go along with particular episodes and it includes everything from the topics being covered as well as a material list and activities to do at home.
Not only is this a kid-friendly show to watch when they travel or are browsing Netflix, but they can also go online (with their parents) to play games, watch videos and other fun activities based on the program! There’s also an app for smartphones and tablets to help entertain and teach kids more about science and space.
Want to learn more? Be sure to visit the Space Racers website and follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Plus they have a great YouTube channel full of videos.
