Starting Preschool Right: 4 Tips for Success
For little ones, preschool is an exciting new step. A little bit of preparation can go a long way toward making your preschooler’s first day of school a success. Read on to discover easy ways to help your child’s school year get off to a great start.
- Use labels. If several children have similar backpacks or lunch boxes, it can be difficult for your child to know which one is his or hers. Products such as Stuck on You School Labels can make it easy to personalize school items and easy for your child to recognize their own belongings.
- Talk about school. Your attitude and demeanor make a big impact when telling your child they are starting school. Set the tone by being enthusiastic and positive, and tell your child what to expect on the first day of school.
- Make sure your child is well rested and well fed. Tired and cranky is no way to start the school year. Put your child to bed early enough so he or she gets plenty of sleep and wakes up rested and happy. Eating a good breakfast is also important. Breakfast will help give your child the energy needed to learn and play.
- Role play. Social skills can be a bit sketchy for four year olds, so it’s a good idea to introduce your preschooler to the basics. A great way to do this is to role play. Use stuffed animals or puppets to role play meeting new people and using good manners.
In addition to these tips, don’t forget to do your own homework first. Visit the preschool ahead of time and speak with your child’s teacher if you can to get a sense of what your preschooler’s first day will be like. This will help you help your child know what to expect and in turn, have a great first day.
