Author Dana White of A Slob Comes Clean tackles teaching cleaning to children in her latest book that is free* today on Amazon! Teaching Kids to Clean is a cute yet detailed book on teaching our children how to care for themselves by taking care of their surroundings.
Chores at our house were assigned by age, not gender. Our girls learned home maintenance and our boys learned to dust, cook and mop the floor. It was important for us to know our children would be able to either maintain a home or help their spouses when they were no longer under our roof. This book contains lesson plans, printable instructions and helpful checklists.
Cleaning skills are life skills. One day your child will be living on his own and in order to function, he’ll need to know how to hold a broom properly. Why not teach these skills now so you can one day rest easily knowing that the state of his bachelor-pad-toilet isn’t because you never taught him how to clean it?!
This e-book contains advice and tools to help you teach your children to clean. Whatever your schedule, whatever the state of your home, you can use these checklists, charts, and ideas as resources to help you in your job as a parent who strives to prepare kids for life.
Based on my experiences teaching my own kids to clean, Teaching Kids to Clean contains general advice for teaching your kids to clean as well as lesson plans, printable instructions/checklists, lists of age-appropriate tasks, and ideas for making things fun for four basic cleaning tasks in your home.
The tasks include laundry, bathroom cleaning, dusting, vacuuming and mopping.
With your Kindle purchase, you’ll gain access to the printable checklists and charts from this e-book.
If you are looking for help or a simple way to get your children started on cleaning, this would be a great little book.

I’ve raised my kids & now I’m having my grandchildren for a week. I warned them that they would be doing “chores.” Dana White’s book: “Teaching Kids to Clean” looks like a hoot. I’m sure that we could have a good time cleaning together, knowing that as soon as we are done, we will be enjoying games, science experiments, night outdoor bowling with glow light bowling pins, and many more fun things I have been pinning for the last 8 months. Thank you for sharing your review of Dana’s book.

What a great book! I have tried to teach my son in the same manner so that no matter where he goes or whether married or not, he can take care of himself and his surroundings properly

This looks like a good tool in helping to prepare your children for living on their own, actually just for living.

thanks for the post! just got it and can’t wait to start. my 8 yr old loves being a little helper at the laundromat when we go – he helps the lady that works there sweep and mop and clean lint traps and restock the soap dispenser and such. and she gives him a dollar for helping. it’s cute because he pitches fits when i ask him to do things at home, but he’s learning some of those skills anyway! hopefully this book will give me a little more insight on how to give him good logical explanations of WHY he should clean. 🙂
