The Pleasure of His Company {Book Review}
Have you ever met a faithful Christian who just never seems to get flustered or overly anxious and worried about the small things? I know a few and I’ve always been envious of their ability to be confident and rely on their faith in the Lord, no matter how bad things may get. The book, The Pleasure of His Company by Dutch Sheets, helps you learn how to become that person!
There’s just something about people who are close to God. Through the ups and downs of life, they remain secure, hopeful. If you want a more rewarding spiritual life, if you want the pleasure of knowing your Creator’s heart, this soul-lifting book is for you.
Learn from Dutch Sheets as he shares his life lessons for cultivating an intimate relationship with God. Each of the thirty short chapters reveals a simple practice or biblical mindset that will help draw you away from the noise of life and into the Lord’s peaceful presence.
With profound insights from the Bible and stories you won’t soon forget, The Pleasure of His Company is like a spiritual mentor, showing you simple ways to enjoy God more.
This powerful book can also be enjoyed as a daily devotional.
The author, Dutch Sheets, has written this book to provide insight and inspiration to be that strong and faithful person who chooses to rely on their strength and confidence in God rather than worry about things they can’t control. And he says it really is a decision, how we react and behave.
Each chapter is fairly short, 8-12 pages really, so they don’t take long to cover. And each chapter is about a different aspect of the journey, as you grow in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He uses stories, Scripture and prayer to teach and explain each lesson. I personally enjoyed some of the history/deeper meaning of the original text in Greek and Hebrew, because they don’t always translate perfectly into English, but have other meanings that make a verse suddenly change and become perfectly clear!
I don’t know that I’d sit and read this book straight though; I think it’s better as a daily devotional but that’s me. I found that I would finish the reading and put it down, but my mind and heart would wander back over what I’d learned later in the day, sometimes even days later.
