Psalm 5:12 “For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; and surround them with your favor as with a shield.” (NIV)
Today is the day for decision in our lives as it is every day. I love the principle of the “boundary of the day” because it allows us to start fresh each day in our relationship with God and seek to be new creatures in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The truth is that we don’t have to carry the heavy baggage of sin, broken relationships, failed promises, and unmet expectations from one day to the next. God gives us the power to break the claims of the evil one on our life by choosing Christ and walking with him. When you do that, you are right with God and you are his righteous one. It’s all brand new for you in Christ and you never have to be that old person again.
David, in our devotional text, describes this person as righteous or right before God and it produces in the righteous man or woman an overwhelming confidence in the power of God to watch over our lives, which allows for the calmness of soul that is vital to our proceeding victoriously through this world. Psalm 5 is all about those who are evil in this world attempting to harm the righteous, but God will not allow it and he surrounds the righteous with a protective shield of favor.
Do you feel his favor in your life? If you do, then get on your knees and thank God! If you don’t, then look at Psalm 5 for the characteristics of the righteous person and adopt them as your own:
- Attend church – David says that he will come into the house of the Lord (verse 7) and bow down in reverence and worship God. When you stop going to church, you stop one of the greatest tools that God uses to strengthen you in tough times.
- Follow the leadership of the Lord (verse 8) – Listen to his voice, which is always consistent with the word of God, and follow him obediently. Let the Lord lead in your life, and please don’t take your own willful and stubborn way into the ditch of life.
- Seek the refuge of God in every circumstance, challenge, or trouble in life (verse 11) – If we make that our habit and practice we will have a joyous attitude and a glad spirit because we will see the strong-arm of the Lord intervene in our lives and good things happening.
- Love the Lord (verse 11) – Never ever quit on God because he will never forsake or leave you. The righteous love God enough to trust their lives and future to God. When you do this, you are walking in the circle of the will of God. You will be filled with joy, peace, and power when you are with God in the circle of his will.
TODAY, FATHER, I WILL CHOOSE YOU AND CHOOSE TO BE YOUR RIGHTEOUS ONE LIVING IN THE CIRCLE OF THE WILL OF GOD BY ATTENDING CHURCH, FOLLOWING MY LORD, SEEKING YOU FIRST WITH MY NEEDS, AND LOVING YOU WITH AN UNQUENCHABLE AND PASSIONATE LOVE. AMEN!
