Are you a coconut oil fan yet? Have you read the studies about how good it is for you? How about all the ways it can be used? We are just starting to really use it in our daily lives.
Once you are on board with all the health benefits of coconut oil, you will continue to find more ways to use it. You will also find that there are many types and variations in it. Recently we were asked to try the Gold Label Standard Virgin Coconut Oil by Tropical Traditions.
This product arrived on a hot spring day and was a clear liquid. It quickly setup to it’s natural state over a couple of hours at room temperatures. Personally, I like it in the solid state for most of the ways I use it. My daughters like to heat it just a little so they can use it in things like hair conditioners and suntan oil.
According to Tropical Tradtions:
This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw and surrounding areas from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories on coconut oil antioxidants reveals higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than other coconut oils. The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconuts to make coconut milk. The milk is then allowed to sit for about half a day, while the oil naturally separates from the heavier water. The oil is then filtered from the curds (coconut solids). No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years. Our coconut trees and family producers are certified organic according to strict USDA standards. The families who produce the oil are also trained according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and re-certified each year. This high-grade Virgin Coconut Oil has a long shelf life due to the high antioxidant properties.
The favorite way my girls use the oil is as a hair conditioner. Meg has really thick hair that tends to “grow” throughout the day as the humidity climbs. She loves that her hair stays soft and silky for several days after applying coconut oil to it. Her steps are easy follow for beautiful, shiny manageable hair.
These are a couple of the favorite uses for coconut oil at our house:
- Cooking – adds a wonderful flavor
- Use as a hand and body lotion
- Makes a wonderful massage oil
- Mixed with equal parts sugar for a body scrub
- Rubbed into lips as chap stick

I’ve only used coconut oil in cooking. I’ll have to try it as a body lotion and chapstick.

A few years ago I tried taking a spoonful daily of coconut oil to aid in weight loss and I thought I would LOVE it because I love coconut, but the greasiness of it straight off a spoon made me gag and nauseous so I couldn’t keep it up unfortunately. But lately in your review and other places I have been reading about using it as a hair treatment and even as a beauty facial. So I am thinking of buying it again to use topically!
Sherryl says
Yeah, I tried it straight off the spoon because I read several claims on how it helps with various things…it doesn’t taste like it smells! It needs sugar if I am going to eat it! LOL

I use this for my hands n feet to soften them.
