Using Google Calendar in Homeschooling

August 13, 2012 SimplySherryl 2 Comments

I love Google Calendar! One of the reason is that I can access it from any computer or from my smartphone.

We use the Calendar for our homeschool schedule.  The high schoolers are working with older siblings on several subjects. Their teacher/sibling sets up a schedule in Google Calendar and shares it with their student/sibling and me. This calendar contains the assignments or readings (One daughter is working through American History with “Words Aptly Spoken”). Every morning each of us get a reminder of the assignments (appointments) that are due or coming up soon.

The girls read their assignments, write their reports and email them to their teacher/sibling. They post in the calendar when work is completed. Their teacher/sibling reads report, comments or makes corrections and send it back via email. They go back and forth until the assignment is complete.

Who would have thought having an older sibling no longer in the home teach a class… would be so easy?

I like the idea of homeschooling, helps a lot of kids avoid the hassels and harassing that can happen at schools, but I do wonder about the social skills part… so i’m a bit torn on the whole matter…
