2016’s Safest States in America
Do you think you live in a safe state? I wasn’t surprised by the top ranking state but I was surprised at how far down the list my state of Kentucky was located. We live in a smaller town in Northern Kentucky but have higher than normal drug related crimes because we are right along I75/I71 from Kentucky to Ohio. Most crimes around here are drug related and Northern Kentucky ranks #1 in trafficking in heroine for the Midwest.
Do I feel safe where I live? There are several factors to take into consideration when discussing safety.
Do I feel safe at home?
For the most part yes, but I haven’t always been able to say that. I believe that we are now only because our family prepares for the unplanned and unwanted things that can happen.
Do I feel safe at school?
I do have concerns about my children while attending the university. Both our girls are at different campus locations and have different schedules so riding together isn’t an option. They are both careful and have been trained to be aware of their surroundings. Still, they are teenage girls..so yes I do worry about them.
Do I feel safe while driving?
According to the traffic reports, I live along one of the most dangerous stretch of road in the USA. We have a TON of traffic 24/7 around here. As long as people pay attention, things run smoothly..but oh boy..when things get wonky; they get crazy in a heartbeat. 12, 18, 30 car pile ups all because someone did not pay attention.
Personally, for most of my travels when local isn’t too bad. I check the interstate before leaving home and have learned multiple ways to get around the area should there be a problem on the highway.
I would say that I feel safe while driving around here in Northern Kentucky.
Do I feel safe at work?
Trick question for me since I work from home when in town. I am still cautious when someone knocks on the door or stop in front of the house. I can see outside from my office to both the front and back yards. My biggest issue when working are the little monsters, neighborhood children that are not supervised and think my yard is their short cut to the skate park.
So where did my state of Kentucky rank? Sadly we came in at 34! Where does your state rank?
According to the recent report released by WalletHub:
Every state provides a different level of safety.. Thus, when choosing a new place to lay down roots, we must carefully consider the types of security we most highly prioritize — and insulate our finances against life’s hazards in order to minimize their potential damage.
With the season of moving in high swing, WalletHub has compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 25 key “safety” metrics including “number of assaults per capita” to “unemployment rate” to “estimated losses from climate disasters.”
