God will be our Guide to the End

God will be our Guide to the End

Psalm 48:14 “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.” (NIV)

Psalm 48 addresses the power and presence of God within the walls of the city of Jerusalem. The Lord had done great things for Jerusalem, and the city prospered as God’s people grew and waxed strong among the nations. A great truth we find in Psalm 48 is gleaned from verse 13, where we are told it is not sufficient simply to praise God but we must also tell of his works, power, and glory to the next generation. God expects each one of us to share him with the next generation!

In order to share God with the next generation we must have something to share, which requires an intimacy with God in our daily walk as he demonstrates his presence, power, and provision for our daily needs. This great confidence that is built into the Christian over time is critical to fulfilling our task to the whole community in sharing God’s power with those that follow. Always remember, you cannot share what you do not have. We all must get about the business of seeking, finding, understanding, and sharing this great God whom we serve.

In verse 14 we find our devotional text, where we can mine three great bedrock truths about God’s relationship with man:

  1. God is a personal God who knows us and desires intimacy with us. As the Psalmist puts it, “God is our God!”
  2. God is an eternal being, and our relationship with God is never ending and is always in the moment. God is there for us in the present at our every point of need, regardless of our circumstances. As the Psalmist says, “this God is our God for ever and ever;”
  3. God loves to give us direction and guidance from the beginning to the end of our lives. Without fearing anything, we know that God will be there for us at the very end of physical existence, as he is at this very moment. The Psalmist states that God will be “our guide to the very end”. God will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5)

The reliability of God and the predictability of his love and wise guidance is a great gift for every Christian each day. Never back pedal from listening to God’s guidance for your life and sharing him to the next generation.

FATHER, GUIDE ME TO THE END WITH YOUR HOLY WORD AND YOUR HOLY SPIRIT SO THAT I MIGHT SHARE GOD TO THE NEXT GENERATION!
