I know we all agree that we need to take time to recharge our own batteries and that we need to take care of ourselves before we can care for others….

Yeah, we all can agree on that statement…and then also probably all agree that this rarely happens! This weekend was one of those rare moments for me. I attended a concert on Friday night for Tim Hawkins and then drove to Shelbyville, IND for the Share.Support.Celebrate Conference on Saturday.

Friday night was of course hysterical. My face still hurts from laughing so much. It was a much needed stress release and there is something to be said about how laughing and sharing humor does a body good!

The conference on Saturday was held at the Indiana Grand Casino. What a beautiful location! We were not actually inside the casino, but were in the office tower that overlooked the race track. Upon arrival, you could watch the horses being put through their morning exercises and being groomed. The location alone would be an awesome field trip if your little ones are interested in horses.

This conference was sponsored by Project Purse Club and the #PursePact.

Share.Support.Celebrate (#SSCCon14 and @SSCConference) is a one day conference concentrating on supportive women who are interested in concentrating on themselves and making changes–both personally and professionally.

Our focus for the day was to gather the tools, information but more importantly the motivation to make those much needed changes in our personal and business lives. What I appreciated was the heartfelt speakers that shared their lives with us.. not just a press release or their latest how to project.

While most of the women present were from the blogger world, this conference would be awesome for all women that struggle with taking care of everyone at the expense of themselves.

Our keynote speaker was Dr. Nancy Berk:

Dr. Berk is a clinical psychologist, columnist and award-winning humorist who puts life on the  couch for a laugh. A stand-up comic armed with a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and the skills of a therapist, professor and researcher, she’s been described as “Dr. Phil meets Tina Fey.”

Other speakers included:

Crystal Paschal of Mom for Less, Sharon Green of Alethes Consulting, Tricia Wade of Take 10 with Tricia, Michelle Freed of MichelleFreed.com, Jennifer Robinson of Purposeful Networking, Emily Mailey at Digital Relevance, Tawni Reller of Tawni Reller Consulting,   and event coordinator Jacqueline Wilson.

So… Yes, I am thankful that I took the time and unplugged for the day. My heart needed the encouraging words from other ladies that were in the same spot or who had walked a similar path. It was also the kick in the pants I needed to finally make some decisions on some things at home and in my business that I had been on the fence on for far too long.

I don’t know where or when this conference will be next year, but I plan on being first in line to purchase a ticket! I will keep you posted and really encourage you to find ways to take care of yourself so that you can continue to care for those around you.

You hit the nail right on the head! This conference was energizing and it could branch out to women in general! Next year it’s at the Indiana Grand again in April on the 18th & 19th.

The Share-Support-Celebrate Conference sounds like what I need right now. I feel like I am pulled in soo many different directions, and sometimes I don’t feel like I do a good job at any of them.
Thanks for sharing about your experience – I will have to keep an eye out for the next one!

Sounds like a wonderful time. Taking care of others at your personal expense does no one favors. Encouragement to better care for yourself to better care for others is a great topic! Thanks for sharing about this conference!

Thanks for the shout-out, Sherryl! Saturday was such a great day. I’m so happy to have met and had the opportunity to share with so many supportive women. Definitely looking forward to attending next year 🙂
