Old West Festival {Review}

Ready to step back in time, to the Old West specifically? Well, here's your chance! Check out the 7th year of the Old West Festival being held in Williamsburg, Ohio. There'll be gun slingers, trick riders, jail breaks, music and more!

Anyone who knows our family knows that we attend several festivals every year, several of them involving costumes, themes and characters. So the Old West Festival is no exception for us!

The structure is permanent so it's not something that was “tossed” in place in a single day. It truly looks like it belongs there! There are store fronts with a dance hall, saloon, and a clothing store to check out. Also, you can dress up and participate in the daily contest if you want, or have your picture made with any number of characters working at the Festival.

And you never know when a gun fight may break out! LOL

Here are the highlights for this years' Old West Festival:

  • New Entertainer—Wild Riders’ Abigail Petersen will perform Wild Trick Riding! Abigail will star in the Old West Festival Circus Riding Show, performing along with the Pickled Brothers.
  • New weekend—Old West Festival has extended its season to include an extra weekend in October!
  • New Themes—Themed weekends are back and better than ever! Cowboy Hero Weekend Sept. 6-7; Outlaws Weekend Sept. 13-14; Romance Weekend (New in 2014) Sept. 20-21; America’s Pastime Weekend Sept. 27-28; Steam Punk Weekend Oct. 4-5; Halloween Weekend (New in 2014) Oct. 11-12.
  • Gun Fights now break out all across the Old West Festival

This event is great for the entire family. There are even special events just for the little cowboys and cowgirls! They can make arts and crafts, be sworn in as a deputy, have their pictures made with strolling characters, play games and even pan for gold! Plus extra special items on certain theme weekends!

Don't worry, there's plenty of things for the adults to take part in, like watching Miss Melody Star and her Hurdy Gurdy Dancing Girls, trick riders, melodramas, restaurants and more. There's always something to see around every corner, for the young and old alike.

Tickets to the Old West Festival can be purchased for $12, $6 for children ages 6-12, children 5 and under admitted for free. Parking is free and the festival will be held, rain or shine. Tickets are available in advance at www.oldwestfestival.com.

The Old West Festival runs Saturdays and Sundays, September 6 to October 12 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and is located at 1449 Greenbush Cobb Rd between Mt. Orab and Williamsburg, Ohio just off St. Rt. 32.
