Google Dominates the Global Search Market

Google Dominates the Global Search Market

Just in the month of December 2012 alone, over 175 BILLION online searches were conducted worldwide! Think about that for a minute. Do you realize that this means there were 65,000 searches entered per second???  And of that number, 65 percent of those searches were processed by Google! Don't know about you but this is impressive to my mind.

Google Dominates Global Search Market

According to recent comScore data:

The U.S. search giant handled an overwhelming 115 billion searches in December, distancing its strongest competitor Baidu by more than 100 billion searches.

The other Top Search Engines were:

Baidu topping 8 percent due to their strong position in China.
Yahoo* was surprisingly ranked third, with just under 5 percent.
Yandex (Russian competitor) topped Microsft with just under 3 percent of total searches.
Microsoft closed the top five ranking of all searches during the month of December 2012.

When looking at the individual user, not surprisingly the results are similar:

Google Dominates Global Search Market

Google again shows it's dominance with almost 80 percent of the 1.52 billion search engine users worldwide conducting a Google search at least once! The above chart indicates the number of unique individuals searching on the top 5 search sites in December 2012.

I wonder what 2013 will bring…..

Charts were provided by Statista for this article.

*Disclaimer: It should be noted that Yahoo’s search is powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engine, but comScore tracks the site on which a search is conducted rather than the underlying search engine.
