Winter Sports in Northern Kentucky

Winter Sports in Northern Kentucky

Winter Sports in Northern Kentucky

The winters in Northern Kentucky are usually mild compared to the areas even within 100 miles of us. The top two winter sports in Northern Kentucky are ice skating and snow skiing. Because of the limited frigid temperatures, our winter sport season is normally from mid December to late February. My girls love spending times on the ice and on the slopes. We actually start schooling a month early just so they have 2 or 3 days to spend outside during winter.

There are several ice rinks in the area are open year round and the parks department of nearby Cincinnati sets up an outdoor skating rink when temperatures allow, which is the place to go for fun.

Winter sports take their own special kind of clothing and equipment. For my crew, we have found that purchasing our equipment has been a better value over renting. Thankfully we have a local source for ski related gear but for things like our skates and skating bag, skates.guru was highly recommended by the staff and skaters we asked.

Winter Sports in Northern Kentucky

Skates.Guru is know as the Ice Skating Store. They have been in business for a long time and have a great customer review listing online. They carry a large range of ice skating equipment and apparel.

I appreciate that ordering was easy and their sizing charts are accurate. They carry products from top brands such as Riedell, Jackson, Zuca and Guardog. Their customer service staff are nice and ready to answer any question about their product line. I felt like a kid in the candy store. I had no idea there were so many options and variety available in the world of ice skating!

From boots, to blades and bags to mittens, Skates.guru has it covered. Did you know that skates actually come in kids, beginners, intermediate and advanced? I had no idea. I honestly thought skates were skates…but I was wrong!

Some of our favorite bags were the zuca sport bag and the zuca skating bag. Both of these are well made bags that can hold up to a lot of use. I have to admit I was impressed at some of the bags. Several of them would be perfect for me as much as I travel because they have hang up compartments on each side and the poles telescope open tall enough to hang all your clothing. Impressive to say the least!

Another thing that I appreciate about skates.guru is that they offer free two day shipping on orders. Returns if required are super easy too.

So whatever your winter sport may be, make sure you check out the deals on products at skates.guru. They can outfit you from head to toe if ice skating is your chosen sport but they also carry other winter weather gear that are perfect for other sports like skiing.

I love the snow and have always wanted to learn to ice skate but unfortunately never did have the chance to learn.
I always loved watching and thought it was so graceful and beautiful.

I’m terrible at ice skating, but it’s so much fun to try.

I’ve never lived anywhere with snow to experience winter sports. The occasional dust of snow might lead to a small snow man or a short snow ball fight.

You are so lucky we don’t have snow in the far north of New Zealand. We have Christmas in summer too 🙂

I will have to check this out since I have a couple kids that have never been ice skating yet. Living in Michigan and doing it as a kid, I loved it and think they will too. Thanks for sharing!

I remember doing a lot of skating in Wisconsin when I was growing up. Now that we’re living in Central Kentucky, there aren’t opportunities for outdoor skating but in Lexington there is indoor ice skating!
