Showing Appreciation

Showing Appreciation

Showing AppreciationAs parents, we teach our children to say “thank you” when someone does something for them. As an adult, I try to always smile, make eye contact, and say “thank you” as much as possible. Showing appreciation doesn't require anything more than a little time and effort to make someone else feel like they or their work matter in your life.

Think about those that you come in contact with as you go about your daily routine. Do you ever run into the mail carrier or UPS driver? We get so many packages that the delivery drivers all know me. It is too funny when they stop me coming down the street because they have packages or when they speak to me at the grocery store! Now that bothered me for years because I didn't know their names…until I asked. Now, when they see me out and about, they can also be greeted by their name instead of being called the mail carrier or the UPS driver.

This spring we had a ton of construction on our road. For months and months, did not think they were ever going to finish. It was hot one day, and we filled a cooler with iced water bottles and set the cooler out at the curb with a note for the workers to keep hydrated. It wasn't a big gesture, but the workers understood we cared about them and the work they were performing.

Now that the heat of the summer is here, our delivery drivers must think they spend as much time at my house as they do on the rest of their routes. Often UPS is here 3 or 4 times a day.

Showing Appreciation

To show our appreciation, and as a way to say thank you; we set out this basket of water and snacks.

Again, it doesn't take much to make someone feel like they matter. You can grab the printable for this here.

Showing Appreciation is easy

I LOVE this idea! I give $5 fast food gift cards for the holidays, but I love the idea of offering water during the warmer months as well.

I wonder if there is something that can be put outside for this time of year. I can see the water freezing over and that wouldn’t bee good.

That’s really awesome! We had a storm and were without power for 5 days and the workers were out in the rain trying to restore power for everyone so I went to Wawa (like a heritage or 7-11) got them a box of coffee, extra cups, straws, etc then went to Dublin Donuts for some snacks and drove around to the close groups of workers. I know it wasnt much but I just wanted them to know I appreciated them being out in the rain so I could eventually have power.

That is so inventive I am sure they really appreciate that it’s nice to know that someone is thinking of you so many people think that money is the only way to thank people or to donate your time. Just a simple thank you or a gesture such as leaving drinks and snacks go a long way.
