A God for All Seasons
A God for All Seasons is an inspirational book on finding God in all seasons of life. It is based on the scripture in Ecclesiastes, there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.
I can remember as a child, hearing the ladies chat about being in this season or that season of life. Of course I didn’t understand it as it relates to our lives as Christians but now I find myself also using the phrase.
Life is a season. Our problems for the most part are like a season and only last for a little while. As the world continues to turn, our concerns come and fade…just like the seasons.
In A Time For All Seasons, the author Patti Tingen’s offers a year long reflection on our life. She relates how our lives move like the seasonal changes of winter, spring, summer and autumn. Using the seasons, she discusses how our lives really should change through the seasons and how those changes should and will help us to grow spiritually if we will learn from the time spent in that season.
Each Season is broken down into months and each month is tied to the passage in Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8: A Time for Everything
For everything there is a season,
A time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
Winter:

Autumn:

October: A time to believe
November: A time to thank
I agree with her introduction that life is never static. Physical, emotional, financial and spiritual ups and downs are all a part of this journey called life. Each of these ups and downs are really just “seasons” and if we will turn to God in those times, He will always be there to help us.
Learning to live in the now and the season you are in, while working through it until the next season is upon you isn’t always easy. But through faith and continued study of God Word, each of these seasons will help you mature. By maturing, you will then be able to help another person walking the path behind you.
