A Love Like Ours {Book Review}
This is the third book in the series but can easily be read as a stand alone book. The chemistry between Lyndie and Jake pulls you right in from the first page. The story line addresses heavy topics with stereotyping or sugar coating.
Tackling topics of PTSD and disabilities are tough. Wade did a great job of guiding the reader through the maze.
Jake and Lyndie are the main characters. They could be the couple down the street. Both have major challenges that effect their attitude and their drive to succeed in life.
The compassion that Lyndie shows is admirable. Her love and caring for family shines through in the way she works with the horses.
Jake is a Marine. He internally carries wounds from his time in Iraq. As with many soldiers, not all their wounds are visible to the eye. Yes he has physical scars, but the real battle is with the PTSD that is a part of his everyday life.
Book Preview:
Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.
When Lyndie James, Jake’s childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion’s reluctance to run.
Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake’s will, Lyndie’s sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he’s built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he’d thought he’d lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

I enjoyed this book and how struggles people face are not always in your face. Just coming home isn’t the end of the battle for many of our service personnel. Just as living with disabilities is not something that many understand. The take away is for me was that everyone is working through or battling something. Think about that the next time you have an interaction with someone you deem “different”.
