Awesome Fried Pickles

Awesome Fried Pickles

Awesome Fried Pickles

My crew loves pickles! Dill, bread & butter, hot & spicy..we have them all in our pantry. So of course, fried pickles are a super favorite treat for us. Not wanting to pay over $5 for a small plate of pickles when dining out, we tested and tweaked our way to our own Awesome Fried Pickle recipe.

Ingredients:

2 quarts vegetable oil
16 oz. jar pickles (chips or spears)
2 cups buttermilk
3 cups flour (try mixing wheat and white for special flavor)
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper  – (optional but really needed)

Directions:

  • Heat the oil to 350 degrees (med-high) in a deep pot
  • Drain pickles in colander and remove any seasonings
  • Place the pickles in a mixing bowl and cover with the buttermilk
  • Combine the dry items (flour, salt, paprika, and cayenne) in a large bowl
  • Working with a handful of pickles at a time, dredge through the dry mixture (shake off excess)
  • Carefully drop into the oil (I use a slotted spoon to keep from splashing)
  • Press down and flip a couple of times while frying. Fry until they are golden brown (3-5 minutes)
  • Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels

It doesn't matter if you like chips or spears..both fry up nicely.

This sounds like a pretty easy recipe and I like others do not like the dill ones, but I would like to try the bread and butter or sweet pickles fried and this recipe does not seem too hard, but I bet they are great, we had dill fried ones in Shreveport and they had Cajun seasoning in them and they were good. Thanks for sharing this recipe

I must say I’ve never heard of fried pickles. We all love pickles in our home, however. The recipe doesn’t seem to be complicated and I feel curious enough about the taste to give it a try.

Do you think the bread and butter kind would work? I imagine dill pickles are the go to, but I like the B&B better.

May have to try these in my fryer!
