Be the Change in Your Community

One of my favorite quotes is: Lead, Follow. or Get out of the way! We try to teach our children that they either need to be the leader in righting a wrong, be on the team supporting someone else taking the lead, or they need to get out of the way and not be a hindrance to those trying to help.

Having a large family has a lot of challenges and blessings. One of the best blessings I see as the mom of the crew is when someone is in need and the family closes ranks around them to help. Together we can make a difference.

Some of the things that we have been involved in as a family include:

• Sewing quilts and filling duffle bags for children in the shelters
• Preparing backpacks for the head start children in our county
• Buying and delivering Santa to another family with 12 children when dad lost his job
• Preparing and handing out gallon baggies filled with personal care items and small snacks at the soup kitchen
• Preparing meals for the senior center

Knowing how much we are blessed weighs on each of us. We strongly believe that we are blessed and because of that we need to share and bless others.

Our area was hit hard with tornadoes a couple of years ago. While we were all safe..those we knew and loved lost everything. We worked for weeks with friends, family and others from area congregations to clean up, haul off, feed, shelter and just love on while they worked to rebuild their lives.

Another way that our crew gets involved is with the Habitat for Humanity program here in the Tri-State area. Together with friends and neighbors, we have worked from ground breaking to house warming party on several properties.

For over 16 years, Whirlpool has partnered with Habitat for Humanity developing active programs in over 45 countries and committing over $90 million dollars. During that time, Whirpool has donated more than 168,000 ranges and refrigerators to Habitat which helped over 85,000 families. Whirpool also donates products to the Habitat ReStore which has helped raise millions of dollars.

Through the generosity of Whirlpool, home owners are being blessed with the needed appliances to complete their kitchens. This display of caring and concern brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart.
