Sony’s PlayStation 2 is by far the most successful video game home console of all time. But as all good things must come to an end…. This unit has officially been discontinued.
Since it’s launch way back in 2000, the PlayStation 2 has sold over 155 million units! YES MILLION UNITS!! PlayStation 2 has held the lead in sales even when you consider how popular the Sega’s Dreamcast, Nintendo’s Gamecube and Microsoft’s Xbox systems have been worldwide. The sheer numbers just baffle me.
At the time of Sony’s announcement, Playstation 2 hosted a gaming library of more than 10,000 titles, including the best-selling of all time…Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with over 17 million copies sold.
It has been said that the PlayStation 2 will likely hold the title of best-selling video game console of all time. This is due to the fact that the current and future generations of gaming consoles will have to compete with tablets and smartphones.
