Bloggy Moms April Blog Dare

Day Two

Bloggy Moms Blog Dare Day Two

This month the Bloggy Moms were given a Blog Dare. Each day we receive a lead in phrase to the article for the group. Come along with me as I try to keep pace with the Bloggy Moms Blog Dare challenge.

If I had to explain myself one more time…to a doctor or police officer that we homeschool our children I think I may just let them think I didn't bother to send them to school at all!

Just kidding…but why is it that with so many people homeschooling, or schooling at home, or enrolled in satellite schools that this is even an issue. One of the blessings of homeschooling is that we can go and do things during the day or when it fits our schedule. We are not chained to the kitchen table from 7am to 2:30pm.  We can take classes from local establishments during the day when they normally can't fill a class. There are places that seek out homeschoolers to fill those time slots! Our children ski in the winter and ride the coasters at the amusement park in the summer.. always during the normal school hours. We do not have to deal with the crowds which makes our time there more enjoyable.

Recently, one of the little cities around here just instituted a daytime curfew. What a joke! If truancy is an issue, there are plenty of laws on the books to address it. Why should I have to send a note with my 16 year old stating it is ok for her to be in a store at at the movies or where ever she works during “public school hours”?

Now I understand the “defense” of the daytime curfew. I attended the meetings on why this is necessary. I spoke about how off base they were in their thinking and had the  presenters of the law agree that there were several current laws that would do the same thing as this new law. It passed anyway…and this seems to be the new normal.

Have you ever looked at some of the laws on the books? Some of the older laws are so funny! It is against the law in KY to call someone out for a duel. However, that was the way things were settled for years in KY! How? Cross the river and you are in two states that dueling is legal! Most states have laws that you can't “tinkle” in public, or spit on the sidewalk. How about the fact that over half the states have that you can't use the F bomb in the presence of a female!

I guess I just don't understand… I would never assume to ask someone why their children were not in school or anymore than I would ask someone why they have 0…5,6,10…16 children!
