Book Review: The Christian Mama's Guide to Baby's First Year

Title: The Christian Mama's Guide to Baby's First Year (Everything You Need to Know to Survive (and Love) Your First Year as a Mom)
Author: Erin MacPherson
Published by Thomas Nelson

I picked this book up for to add to our library for the children as they become parents. We have several that are going through the “First Time Parent” attacks and I thought this book could offer some tips and thoughts from someone other than Grandma.

However, I was captured at first page as Erin drew me in to the point that I was unable to put the book down or stop reading “highlights” from it to my other children. I found her style of writing very candid. I also found myself crying with laughter and had to share these highlights with those sitting around me.

Being a mom many times over, I can now sit back and laugh at some of the first timer concerns and worries. Not that they are valid concerns, but when you look back you will also see that some are just hormonal and not reality.

She covers topics relating to baby such as getting them to sleep, when to offer solids, how to comfort them, and other tips and advice for the new mom to get through those difficult months with a new baby.

But what I truly enjoyed was her comments and reminders that there is life after baby! Yes, you may feel like only a food source now but in the not so distant future you will begin to find yourself again.

This book is an easy-to-read and oh so funny. From a been-there-done-that mom offering practical answers to questions with a dose of humor mixed with a great deal of grace. Her purpose is to assist new moms as they grow to become the mom God intended them.

I found this book light, easy and an entertaining read.  I appreciated that she does clearly let new moms know that this is a season in their life. They too will soon look at their little one and get that “where did my baby go” feeling.

This book is available on Amazon as well as Thomas Nelson and Barnes Noble.
