Brick Oven Bistro {Review}
Recently on a trip to Sandusky, Ohio, my crew was on the hunt for some local, delicious pizza. After a bit of searching and reading reviews, we found a place that wasn’t too far from where we were staying. We ate at The Brick Oven Bistro!
With a combination of traditional northern Italian and Sicilian taste, George and Lynn created a menu of appetizers, delectable sandwiches and gourmet pizzas which are fired in our brick oven.
This is a wonderful place not too far from the entrance to Cedar Point, which is also where our hotel was located. For being a Friday evening, it was busy but we were seated right away. It’s not a huge place, but plenty of 2 and 4 top tables, plus seating in the bar area and also outdoor seating when the weather allows.
Their menu had something for everyone in the group.
While we declined alcohol, I should note there is an extensive list of beer and wine, along with a full service bar.
We started off with appetizers, and ordered the Bruschetta and Oven-Baked Stuffed Jalapenos. Oh boy, both were just as tasty and delicious, and empty plates were all that remained after inhaling them!!
The Bruschetta (oven-toasted ciabatta topped with marinated tomatoes, capers, red onion and fresh basil) was crunchy, even with the toppings. I loved how the sweet soft tomatoes played against the tang of the capers and the bite of the onions.
The Oven-Baked Stuffed Jalapenos (Fresh jalapenos, with a blend of our own Italian sausage, peppers, onion, cream cheese & fresh herbs) were great, even though they weren’t the traditional deep fried version. Still plenty of crunch to the breading and enough heat for the more delicate ones of our group.
As for our dinner, we decided to share 2 of their brick oven pizzas. We went with the Pear Gorgonzola and the Margherita pizzas.
The Pear Gorgonzola pizza was what we called our “girly pizza” because it had several toppings that the guys in our group back home would never touch (they just don’t understand what they’re missing)! This wasn’t your traditional pizza like red sauce and cheese, but over the top! (Olive oil, fresh Bartlett pear, gorgonzola cheese, bacon, red onion, arugula, candied walnuts & balsamic reduction)
The Margherita pizza was simple, but so tasty! It had marinated tomatoes, capers, onion, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, provolone, parmesan & olive oil. As you can see, the basil on top is not only a perfect presentation but also gave a wonderful taste as we dug in.
Both pizzas were terrific and there are several others on the menu that we’ll try on our next trip through Sandusky (sandwiches, calzones, and desserts)!
Our server was very nice and answered all of our questions when we were trying to decide what to order. It wasn’t overly loud, even being a Friday night, and you could definitely make it a family favorite!
You can find out more on the Brick Oven Bistro website, including their menu in case you want a sneak peek before you visit!
