Castaway Bay Winter Getaway with #CPMOMS!
Guess where I spent a couple of days last week? Yep at Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio. First let me say that if you live within five hours of this place; you should make your reservations as soon as possible! It is awesome for families with young children.
The Caribbean meets Sandusky at this resort destination! With its tropical theme, guests at Cedar Point’s Castaway Bay feel like they have just landed on an island paradise upon entering this lush indoor waterpark resort.
Personally, I am so over winter. Bring on the spring time temps and flowers! We were invited to head to Castaway Bay for a weekend with the Cedar Point Moms group. My crew could not pack fast enough!
It is a five hour drive for us but so worth the trip. The hotel is beautiful and the water park is impressive. My crew could not wait to hit the pools and slides.
Checking in was easy! The staff members were so friendly. Even though we needed to make some changes to our room arrangement, the staff handled it quickly and without making me feel like I was being a bother.
Our room was “sweet” according to the 4 year old. He suggested that I sleep on the magic bed (aka sleeper sofa) because he wanted one of the “monster beds” all to himself! Such a sweet little one!
The rooms and suites feature a private deck or balcony (in most), flat screen television, free wireless internet, microwave, mini-refrigerator and coffee maker. Also, many rooms have access to adjoining rooms – perfect for extended families or large groups.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent in the water park. There are 12 sections to the park – Tropical Tube Slides, Toddler’s Tide Pool, Cargo Crossing, Castaway Bay Wave Pool, Creature Cove, Lookout Lagoon Family Funhouse, Mango Melee, Tropical Twister, Rendezvous Run, Paradise Plunge, Pineapple Pipeline and The Grotto. The crew ran themselves silly and did not want to leave for dinner. That my friend; is ALWAYS a sign that the trip was worth it!
Our event was kicked off with an evening pizza and salad party in the restaurant. Special orders here also were not a problem and handled with grace and a smile.
After dinner, the families gathered for a time of fun, ice cream and crafts. Our older crew colored souvenir towels to remember the weekend and the little one painted a picture frame all by himself – because you know that he is “getting older and needs no help”. LOL
Movies, snacks and lots of running around the halls in the hotel were on tap for the next several hours. Finally (did I say finally?) it was bedtime. Partly because it was getting late but mostly because the Cedar Point Moms had a gathering scheduled and the little ones were not invitedJ!
Kids snuggled away in the room; the Mom Bloggers gathering to network and enjoy a tasting of several dishes and a couple of wines from a local winery. The food was awesome!
The evening ended with a group of Bloggers camped by the fireplace until the wee hours of the morning. This was the highlight of the trip for me. Putting faces with blog names or reconnecting with friends we usually only see at Blogging Conventions is a blessing.
Morning came all too early for us! We visited Mango Mike’s again as what could be better when you are traveling with children than a buffet?
Mango Mike’s breakfast buffet features fresh fruit, freshly-baked pastries, scrambled eggs, cold cereals, hash browns, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy along with breakfast favorites.
Breakfast followed by another couple of hours in the waterpark for the crew while some of the blog moms networked and made plans for upcoming events on our blogs ended with a long drive back to Northern Kentucky.
A huge thanks to Cedar Point Castaway Bay for a wonderful break from a long cold winter. My crew can’t wait to return and spend time in the waterpark.
