Celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter {Book Review}
We know a lot about the history of Christmas and how the important holiday is to our religion. But what about Easter? Why isn’t this holiday celebrated with as much reverence and adoring love for our Lord when we remember His ultimate sacrifice for us? Recently I was given the opportunity to read Celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter by Emily Belle Freeman in which she explains 7 traditions we celebrate that lead us closer to Jesus.
From the author of Celebrating a Christ-Centered Christmas and The Peter Potential comes Celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter, a new book that focuses on seven different personal experiences with the Lord that took place just before and just after His suffering, sacrifice, and Resurrection. Each of the stories is a personal witness of Jesus’ individualized ministry. In addition, the author invites us to participate in seven traditions that will help us have a greater understanding and deeper appreciation for the miracles that surround the celebration we call Easter.
I think this is a great book that’s not only a good read for those of us who want to learn more about Easter and the traditions, why we celebrate the way we do, but it’s also a great family book. By that I mean that my children and I can learn together the reason we have red eggs, baskets, forget knots, etc!
Plus, the chapters are broken down into personal stories, of first person accounts of what happened. Here is the list of people you will learn more about in the book:
- Lazarus
- Simon
- Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus
- Mary Magdalene, Mary the Mother of Jesus, and Mary the Wife of Clopas
- Thomas
- The Disciples on the road to Emmaus
- Jesus Christ
At the end of each chapter is a tradition for you and your family to learn about, a lesson or hymn to do together, all meant to bring you closer together and closer to Jesus.
It’s an easy read, meaning although it’s faith based it’s not full of big hard to understand religious texts. Plus you can break the book down into daily lessons for the week leading up to Easter or one or two a week, whatever schedule would work for your needs.
