Day 5 started off with rain, rain and more rain! The fire alarms went off at the hotel, the cable was out, internet (gasp! was also out) and the temperature fell at least 20 degrees!
Heading out to start with the list of jobs hubby’s mother had prepared. Stepping outside, we were greeted with the monsoon of Michigan! Sweet hubby offered to drive around to the covered area to pick us up.
Within minutes of getting on the road, I hear from the back seat. Psst…Meagan, Are you cold? No, why? I am freezing! I turn around to see Beka curled up freezing because she didn’t listen when the weather forecast was provided at breakfast.
She was wet and cold all day! We stopped back by hotel at one point to store items in the freezer for the reunion and she took advantage of the stop to change into her sweat pants. Silly girl! Mom doesn’t just look up and call out the weather forecast just to talk to the empty space in the room!
Meg listened! She was still wet but not freezing cold.
The rain put a damper on everything. The back and forth from the farm to town was, well, boring. That is the nicest thing I can say about the weather and driving.
The view didn’t change must all day!
I do not think I would like living here if I had to run these roads everyday. Now put me on the farm with everything I need for the week…. maybe.
Lunch was the highlight of my day! Just look at that hamburger! My salad was huge! No way I could finish it. I also had a cheese soup that was delicious. Each of our meals was $5.99! WOW
This is just wrong! Note to self… only have a 22 gallon tank…getting close there mom! This was after using my Speedway discount. Sad, just sad. And another reason not to move to Michigan.
Pizza man for dinner then off to set up the hall for the reunion tomorrow. Tables decorated, food put away, tables set for games, Bingo gifts (one of the top events at the reunion!) and the auction table set up. The grilling will start in the morning early but all the other food is ready to toss in crock pots or in steam tray.
BINGO ~ This was too funny for me when I first attended a family reunion with my hubby. Everyone brings a wrapped gift to put on the bingo table. When you win a game, you get to go pick any gift you want off the table. We play Bingo until ALL the gifts are gone! If you play, you have to bring a gift. If you win 10 games, you get 10 gifts! My kids loved bingo when they were growing up. They all won during the day!
AUCTION ~ This started as a way to build the kitty for the following reunion when passing the plate didn’t show the response hoped for by the planning committee. So now, everyone brings something to go on the auction table. Some of the items are white elephant gifts while others are really neat. This year there are handmade quilts, paintings, computer items, books, coffee pots, gift cards, etc. I can’t wait to see what all is placed on the auction table tomorrow.
As this day comes to an end, we receive sad news that a newborn of a friend of ours has confirmed brain damage from trauma during birth. The MRI showed most of her left brain is gone and only about 40% of her right brain is working. She may not live long and certainly will not have a normal life. This just breaks my heart. I have been in prayer since she was born on Saturday, but I am at a loss of even how to pray. Just asking God for His Will to be done isn’t calming my soul. Lots of scripture come to mind, and while I know that the baby is in God’s hands…. my physical/worldly heart hurts for this young family. Lord, please comfort this family as only you can. Wrap them in your arms and help them make the decisions they will be facing in the next few days. Hold them close and let them see YOU in this, let them feel the love from friends and family. We know that all things are in your control. Amen
