The sun is shining! Woohoo!!! Makes me want to break out into song. It started raining on us before we left the state of Kentucky and has rained for our entire trip. At one point, the thunder was so powerful it set off the fire alarms in the hotel. NICE…
Saturday started early for me with a call from work. Needed to log in and work for a couple of hours before heading to the family reunion.
I posted before about me working from home for a world-wide bridge club. Yep, I get paid to watch people play cards.
This is what my work screen looks like… notice how dark it is in the room? I am sitting in the kitchen with the light on over the stove. Probably a good thing I can type in the dark!
The reunion was fun…I will admit that…LOL It was nice to see my husband enjoying himself with his cousins and family. We are not local to any of them so this bi-annual reunion is the best option for him to catch up with family. Me? I know maybe 10 out of 50 people so I play remember the name and who they are married to game. 🙂
For me…the auction and the bingo games are the highlight of the day. Well, that and maybe the food. We may only live 400 miles apart, but the typical menu selections are…well…different than what is served in Kentucky. Some things I am game to try! I will usually try anything once. However, there was a green dish that no one would tell me what it was, and I couldn’t talk the children into trying so I passed. Also, the major joke on me is that I HATE miracle whip. NASTY stuff is what it is called in my house. My husband loves it! About half the children like it. Ugh ugh ugh ugh… it tastes like spoiled mayonnaise to me.
The auction starts shortly after lunch. There are three people appointed/drafted/voluntold on auction duty. Each family brings something to the auction. There is always a surprise box! Last reunion the surprise box sold for $20 and contained old christmas lights and a crisp new $50 bill! So the excitement was all about the surprise box. I think it sold for $27 and contained a package of pasta and several canned vegetables…. lol what a riot watching the winner open it. We “won” several times. Funds from the auction are to start the kitty for the following reunion.
Here are some of the things we brought home with us:
We won three hand-made quilts, one crochet baby blanket, several sets of place mats, games, a donut maker and assorted other little items.
Then the real fun starts! BINGO..oh my the laughs, hoots and shouting that goes on in this game. The fee to enter the game is a gift wrapped item. Can be ANYTHING and often is…. There are really nice gifts (my girls both won a bath set from Avon) and then there are some not so nice gifts…to say that most are white elephant gifts would be an understatement.
My sister-in-law Diane was the caller this year. She did an excellent job at calling AND at crowd control. She even modified the rules as we went! LOL A grand time was had by all that played. I think we had 22 games by the time all the gifts were claimed.
The area in Michigan is beautiful. Here are some photographs of the surrounding area and countryside. I believe one of the cousins took these photos. Thankfully it stopped raining!
Following a 14 hour day we drove 6 hours home. Talk about tired! I am glad to be home. Thankful that we had a safe trip and glad that husband got to see a large portion of his family.
Our last day of staycation will be on Monday at King Island. Taking two of the grandchildren for the first time. Should be a blast!
