Every Mile Mattered
Do you believe that your experiences make you the person you are today? Do they define you or are you trapped by them?
Can be tough to answer depending on your past. My past is not a straight line to the cross, it twists and turns and has more u-turns than I care to remember. I sometimes think that I have no excuse because I was raised in the church but honestly that has nothing to do with the path we walk when we allow sin in our lives. Often I think it can make it harder for us to return to Christ because of the guilt and shame in our lives.
The person I am today is so different than the person I was as a young adult. I have both physical and emotional scars that remind me of the times that I allowed my life to get out of the Will of God.
But, I am the first to say that all of my experiences, good and bad, have a lot to do with the person I am today. Some of my best habits are things that I learned over the years and many of my character strengths are the result of intentional changes in my life and the grace I was given through Christ Jesus.
I recently heard a song from Nichole Nordman’s latest release. The entire album is great but the title song is Every Mile Mattered. Wow, it speaks to me. Each heartache, each stumble, each time I failed…those miles mattered because they led me to Jesus.
Every Mile Mattered is a collection of songs taking a reflective look at her life’s path to becoming the woman and Christ-follower she is today. From the leading single ‘Every Mile Mattered,’ to a vulnerable introspective track titled ‘Dear Me,’ this album is all about the journey, the ups and downs of life, and not looking back with regret, but with thankfulness that God was there at every turn.
‘In the hands of Jesus, every one of those miles brought me to right now. Nothing wasted. Every mile mattered.’
