Gollywood Here I Come {Review}
Who doesn’t dream of Hollywood when they grow up? It isn’t any different for Anamazie Marie LaBelle in her story, Gollywood Here I Come! This is a sweet book by Terry John Barto about a young turkey who makes it to the top!
When Anamazie isn’t twirling a baton, taking an acting class, or attending singing and dance lessons, she fantasizes about being a movie star. One day, after leading the Wattle View School Band in the 4th of July parade, and a few hard knocks, her dream comes true. Gollywood, here I come! is a success story through the eyes of a young turkey. Take a journey from the small town of Gobbleville to the glamour of Gollywood, as Anamazie becomes a child star.
Anamazie is a talented turkey, that’s for sure. She can twirl a baton, sing, dance and act! She rushes from hometown parade to the finals of Gobbleville’s Got Talent! From there, she finds herself being swept off to her dream come true, to Gollywood! Though the road is bumpy, Anamazie’s hard work and practice pays off in the end!
This book has bright and color illustrations that my child loved. We talked about the story as much as the pictures that went along with them. He loved laughing at the different characters on the pages. Most importantly, he’s learning the lesson of the book: that if you work hard and don’t give up, you can do anything you want.
Gollywood Here I Come is by Terry Barto who is a director and choreographer of over 200 stage productions, plus he’s worked for a cruise line and a popular soap opera. He uses today’s pop culture (America’s Got Talent) to reach the kids with his heartwarming message. And the illustrations were done by Mattia Cerato who has illustrated many other children stories. He has a unique style that kids and adults alike enjoy and would love to see more of.
The only difficulty I had with this book was the placement of the text on some of the pages. It was hard to make out in a few spots, but it was something minor.
I’d recommend this book to anyone with kids, boys or girls, as this is a great story for the whole family.

A favorite Thanksgiving activity I do with my son is making Turkey handprint crafts. I do this every year with him and it’s always fun to see how his hands grow each year.
