Heavenly Help by Sarah Bowling
When you’re raised by a pastor, church tends to be your second home, according to Sarah Bowling, who wrote the book, Heavenly Help. But when that parent is a televangelist and a charismatic pastor, imagine your surprise when you learn not everyone else worships that way! She describes her experiences as she grew up, studied, and wrestled with her own understanding of Christ.
Life-Changing Teaching on the Helper, the Holy Spirit
Sarah Bowling, daughter of healing ministry pioneer Marilyn Hickey, learned about a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit early in life. But she feared excesses and emotionalism, and remained skeptical until she was a young woman, facing many unanswered questions about this mysterious Person. With candor about her extraordinary upbringing, Bowling shares her personal journey to find answers.
Working from the Bible’s original languages, she addresses essential characteristics of the Holy Spirit, including many qualities often overlooked. Basing her study on Jesus’ teaching during the Last Supper, Bowling offers refreshing insights for skeptics, new believers, and mature Christians alike. As you grow in understanding from Jesus’ own words about the Holy Spirit, you can embrace the comfort, guidance, and power he is ready to give you every day.
The author wants to teach readers about the Holy Spirit. Instead of being this vague notion, she wants to teach how He should be a part of your every day life. She also uses her own life and experiences, such as going with her mother to another church’s revival meeting or by going to school to study German, to give the reader insight into her background.
Each chapter begins with a quote and Bible verse, and there are questions to answer and reflect on at the end of each chapter. Using her knowledge of languages and growing up as a pastor’s kid, Sarah provides insights and information about faith, God, and how we should love and rely on the Holy Spirit in good and in bad times. She also uses a story of two friends, Ruth and Naomi, as they deal with real life struggles and hard times. I found these ladies easy to relate to, and most of us probably have friends like them.
Whether you are a new Christian or not, this is an interesting book covering the topic of understanding the Holy Spirit and how to make Him a more important part of your daily life. Be sure to pick up your own copy of Heavenly Help by Sarah Bowling today on Amazon.
