Hollywood Wax Museum {Review}
If you’ve never been to a wax museum, you really should put this on your bucket list. And the next time you’re visiting Pigeon Forge, TN, you can cross it off by checking out the Hollywood Wax Museum! You can’t miss it on the strip; there’s a huge King Kong climbing a sky scraper that marks the spot!
Come Play with the Stars! The all-new Hollywood Wax Museum is part of the Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center entertainment attraction at 106 Showplace Boulevard in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. If you’re waxing for fun in the Smoky Mountains, get into the action with your favorite stars at the largest Hollywood Wax Museum in the United States. From Michael Caine to Michael Jackson and Lucille Ball to Lucy Liu, you’ll find classic and current stars ready and waiting to take pictures with you. In addition to posing with the stars, you’ll learn about their pets, pet peeves, accomplishments, charity work and more. The two-story Pigeon Forge Hollywood Wax Museum also includes themed tributes to film genres including western, action, romance, sci fi, comedy, and horror. The Wax Museum near Dollywood in Pigeon Forge brings you into the world of celebrities like never before.
So for someone who follows a variety of celebrities but could probably not work up the courage to actually get up close to one, this is an awesome opportunity. And even if you just enjoy learning odd facts about your favorite stars, including actors, singers, TV stars and more, the Hollywood Wax Museum is a terrific experience.
Each character is dressed in either a costume from their movie or TV show, or even a replica of their sports jersey or favorite piece of fashion. Marilyn Monroe for example is in a hot pink dress with her hair done up and decked out in jewelry. Michael Jackson is in his red leather jacket and black pants, posed to perfection. Between the costumes, the music/sound effects, and the ability to get “up close and personal”, you feel like you’re on the red carpet and the stars are checking you out!
I enjoyed the different “groups” of celebrities they put together. For example, there’s a whole section dedicated to horror movie characters! I won’t lie, between the believable and life like figures and the creepy lights and music, I didn’t stick around long once I was by myself LOL And now they’ve added props and costume pieces for visitors to borrow to pose for pictures with the characters! The Star Trek area has several red shirts you can put on and get a picture, ready to be beamed on board the ship.
There are 3 stories to visit in all, and each floor is accessible by stairs or elevator. When you enter, you get pictures taken in King Kong’s giant fist which are available for purchase when you leave. The tours are self guided with information about each person and you can take as much time as you want. You can take a bunch of pictures; they just ask you not to touch the figures.
And if you want a really cool experience, make sure you get the VIP pass so you can check out the private viewing deck! You can get an almost 360 degree view of the local area plus fun angles of the King Kong and an airplane that are on the outside of the building.
Here are a few tips from our recent trip:
- Take your time – Don’t worry about rushing through the museum. Read the signs and have fun learning about the stars.
- Don’t be scared of taking fun pictures – Use the props, copy their facial expression or pose to match them; these make great memories to look back on!
- If a large group comes through, step aside – Let them go through as they are normally moving faster than us and then you can visit at your leisure.
