Homeschooling ~ yeah ok

August 30, 2012 SimplySherryl Leave a Comment

Homeschooling has a way of getting into all areas of our day. We had just talked last night about how to incorporate little Ryan into our school day since he is only three and demands a great deal of attention. He loves his racing game! He loves to win but is learning that you don't always win..and that is FAIR because others want to win sometimes too.

Teenage girls get frustrated with three-year old boys. No duh right? They are really good with him but at three he isn't one to sit for long or do anything for long…LOL… We work on his numbers, letters, colors, etc.. OK.. so that fills 15 minutes of our ENTIRE DAY. 🙂  Bring in the electronics… This little one can open aps faster than I can on the iphone, takes better pictures than most adults and is able to ACE levels on Zuma! Yes, at times I do feel left behind… by a three-year old!

However, since we homeschool, we do have to work in a little academics in the day! My girls would argue that this isn't necessary and often try to find ways of getting around completing their assignments in a timely manner. Teen girls??? Who would have thought that they would not just settle in and get their work done? Oh, the times they are a changing!

Back to this morning… Racing game, according to the girls is teaching the boy his:

  • Colors (he has to select the color of his vehicle)
  • Designs/Shapes (he has to select the graphics for his vehicle)
  • Numbers (he knows what position he is at in the race and the number of laps)
  • Coordination (he has to work the buttons and maintain eye/hand control to get around the track)
  • History (???? History ??)  (he remembers what his position was last game and seeks to improve) hmmm…. not the History I remember from school

OK OK  I give in…. a little gaming time can be counted for school… for the three-year old! Not so sure about for the teen girls that are scheduled to be completing Biology and Algebra!

But it does my heart good to hear them laughing and enjoying their time together (subject to change on a dime with teen girls)… between the laughter and hoots I hear the following conversation coming from the family room…

Ryan: Yay!  We got another one!   Good job Beka!

Beka: You better run… I am on your tail!!!!

Ryan: Are you KIDDING ME!!!  REALLY  REALLY  BEKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA  I PASSED YOU…

Ryan: I am so happy…. I love you Beka and Meggie

Beka: Aww thanks buddy – I love you too

Just makes me smile…
