How to Change Your Folder Colors

How to Change Your Folder Colors

Have you ever wished you could sort your folders in your My Documents folder by color? Well… I am here to tell you that I stumbled onto a neat little app that does just that!

And what would you think this little app would be called?  Wait for it……… Folder Colorizer!  Yep, I am not joking!

First you will need to download the free app, Folder Colorizer. This is a free download, but they do ask for your email to activate. You have the option to accept some tag along software or not (simply uncheck the tag along programs you do not wish installed).  You will have to accept the user license agreement and you are good to go. Depending on your operating system, you may be prompted to update your Dot Net Framework which you can download from Microsoft. I use XP and was not asked to update it.

Once installed you will see the Colorizer option when you right-click on any folder. After right clicking, just select the Colorizer option and your color choices will appear. Pick the color you want to use and watch the folder change color.

I would suggest before starting to just randomly color your folders that you take a minute to think the plan through. Perhaps color all the folders that are tax related “Black”?  Work related “Green” … you get the idea.

This in no way changes how your system works…. it just makes it a little prettier!

A folder colorizer looks like a neat addition to organization of the digital kind. We do it with real life folders, why not on our computer? Thanks for sharing!

I have colored just about all my folders. It makes finding things so much easier. Try it.. you can always change them back to the plain brown folder.

What a great idea! I have so many folders on my desktop and sometimes finding what I want, even if they are alphabetized, can be a pain.

I love this. Color changing things for me is an organizational skill. My Gmail calendar shows green for needs to be done on xyz date and red indicates I already completed it. Yellow means don’t juggle that item at all, it’s urgent. I need this system
