How to Love Your Neighbor {Book Review}
Looking for a book that you will not want to put down? I just read How to Love Your Neighbor Without Being Weird by Amy Lively and loved it!
As a Christian woman I know that I have a responsibility to reach out to those around me. This can be hard even if you are not a shy person. This book was all about how to reach out to show your compassion without being weird.
Shoving religion down someone’s throat is never the way to build a relationship. I firmly believe that sharing your faith comes more from being a friend, someone that cares and shows it in the little ways. Only through friendships will we have that opportunity to share our faith in such a way that a heart will be touched.
Sure we can scream Christianity from our roof tops or preach it in the streets…but how do we react to that type of proclamation? We smiled (or laugh under our breath) and move on. No, it is the soft word of a friend or the care shown by a neighbor that opens our hearts and mind to hearing their story.
From the Back Cover
“I want to love my neighbor, but I don’t know how.”
Most of us feel guilty about Christ’s command to love our neighbor, but let’s be honest–we don’t even know most of the people living around us.
How can we love people we don’t even know? Besides, doesn’t it count as “loving our neighbor” when we send money to missionaries and put out yard signs for our church? Are we supposed to just knock on our neighbors’ doors and tell them about Jesus?
“They’ll think I’m weird.”
How to Love Your Neighbor Without Being Weird helps you overcome fears about getting to know your neighbors and sharing your faith. You’ll learn simple, practical ways to get to know your neighbors, using your God-given personality. As you venture out of the comfort of your living room and into the lives of your neighbors, you’ll form authentic friendships, create a safer community, and find fulfillment in obeying Christ’s #2 command.
I love the practical approaches offered in this book as well as the “mistakes” the author shares. We have all had THAT neighbor and we certainly do not want to be considered in the same arena.
You can reach out and show the love of Christ without being weird. This book will give you the confidence to take that walk down the street and knock on a couple of doors. You never know the blessing that is waiting for you.
