With all the technology we have available today, I’ve always wondered how come I’m still the one cleaning my house and not a robot I can program to do it? Luckily, I got the iRobot Roomba 870 at Best Buy that gets at least a big part of my daily chores done…vacuuming! And it gets both the hard wood floors and the carpet too.

Let me tell you, when we first got the package for the iRobot, it was like Christmas. I was probably the most excited, I’ll be honest. So it didn’t stay in the box long before we were setting it up and putting it to work!

Meet toboRi (iRobot spelled backwards; cute huh?), the newest member of our family. We set up his docking/charging station and put down the virtual walls, to keep him out of my office. Once it was ready, we hit the CLEAN button and stepped back to watch him get down and dirty.

This is more powerful than I imagined a short, round robot vacuum could be! It worked great on my hardwood floors, including picking up the animal hair and all the dust that gets kicked up and settles back on the floor. It easily navigated around the furniture, even underneath it as it needed, which is more than the floor normally gets!

I was worried that if we left the basement door open that toboRi would fall down the stairs, but it has this “iAdapt® Responsive Navigation Technology with cliff-detection sensors” kept him from taking a tumble. And I was concerned at first that my wood furniture would get dings and scratches from bumping into it as it cleaned, but the sides are sleek and seemed cushioned so there wasn’t any damage.

There’s very little maintenance or worry with the iRobot Roomba 870. You do have to make sure to empty the bin if the “bin is full” light is blinking. I just got into the habit of doing it every morning when I’m letting the animals outside and getting my day started. But it’s scheduled to run every day at 7am to get the main areas swept up, and then I can manually set it to clean again as needed with the touch of a button.

Don’t worry, it goes home when it’s done with it’s chores, all by itself which is awesome. Plus it won’t get tangled up in your cords which is great, especially around the electronics.

So to sum up my gushing about the iRobot Roomba 870, this is great for any home that has carpet, hard wood or tiled floors. Whether you want it to run on a schedule or only when you tell it to, you’ve got the floors cleaned on your schedule.
