Jeep Baby Carriers and Gucci Baby Carriers
How Different Are They Really?
This is a guest post written By Christine J. @ I’m Super Mommy
Baby carriers. They are one of those baby items that I classify as handy but not necessary. Nevertheless, baby carriers, slings, and wraps have seen a huge surge in popularity in the last decade, and almost all soon-to-be mothers have at least one selected on a gift registry list somewhere. Gucci and Jeep are just two brands that now offer a line of carriers, both brands being at opposite ends of the pricing spectrum. Gucci baby carriers are considered couture and start out around $800 whereas Jeep baby carriers are priced to attract us “everyday folk”,i.e, people who drop $800 down on an automobile, not a baby carrier. Don’t let the price differences in these two brands fool you, though, these carriers have more in common than you think.
Just Because It’s a Gucci Baby Carrier Doesn’t Mean It’s Top Notch
In ideal cases, spending more money on a higher brand means better quality and value. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. While Gucci baby carriers are stylish and sophisticated, they just aren’t that practical. Gucci baby carriers are only made to carry no more than 20 lbs of baby. So, if your little one is a chunky monkey like I was, he or she won’t be riding in this carrier for long. Then there’s those awful straps. They can cut into baby’s thighs, even leaving those ugly red marks like the kind you get from wearing too tight jeans. The bottom line is, with a Gucci baby carrier, you’re spending a lot of buck for very little bang.
Jeep Baby Carriers Are Rightly Priced, But Are They Any Good?
A Jeep baby carrier is priced in most retail stores around $50 to $60. Unlike the Gucci baby carriers, Jeep baby carriers are not exactly stylish and sophisticated. Unfortunately, Jeep baby carriers aren’t exactly at the top of everyone’s list of favorite carriers, either. Generally, Jeep baby carriers carry around the same amount of weight as the Gucci baby carriers, 10-20 lbs. Jeep baby carriers do offer a separate infant insert, though some moms have complained the insert is too warm for both baby and parent to deal with for very long.
What Do Jeep Baby Carriers and Gucci Baby Carriers Have in Common?
Despite their price differences, Jeep baby carriers and Gucci baby carriers share similarities, and not all of them are good. For one thing, neither the Jeep baby carrier or the Gucci baby carrier have a very long shelf life. Once your baby gains more than 20 lbs, the carriers are no longer guaranteed to, well, carry your baby. A close friend of mine received a Gucci baby carrier as a shower gift last year. Her daughter is now nearly a year old and my friend used the carrier a grand total of two times. In my friend’s case, her reason for lack of use with her Gucci baby carrier was that her daughter simply grew too big for it before she could use it again. In the end, she opted to sell hers online. Jeep baby carriers are also sort of similar in style to the Gucci baby carriers. Perhaps the most, a-hem, hazardous to parents issue that Jeep baby carriers and Gucci baby carriers have in common is that they both promote crotch-dangling. As in baby’s feet are dangerously close to your nether regions if you’re the wearing the carrier.
Whose Gucci Baby Carrier Is It, Really?
Baby accessories are supposed to be for baby, right? Sure diaper bags are made to be convenient for mommy but they are also made to serve baby’s needs. The same idea should apply to baby carriers. Many times, though, with carriers, parents worry too much about having the “trendiest” baby carrier as opposed to the most practical, and, more importantly, most comfortable and safest for baby. Gucci baby carriers aren’t bad, by any means. They just aren’t practical. Sure, while your baby is in the weight range the Gucci baby carrier is designed for, it’s a great carrier. Personally, though, if I’m going to spend that kind of money on a baby carrier, I want it to last longer than a few weeks.
Jeep Baby Carriers Are Doin’ Alright
You are pretty much getting what you pay for with the Jeep baby carrier. Though I wish they have a broader weight range, at least they do offer an infant insert, which is really nice if you have a baby during the fall and winter months. While some moms have told me that they weren’t a fan of the straps on Jeep baby carriers, this is a common complaint on many baby carriers. Jeep baby carriers do lack in a few other functionalities that you can get with a slightly higher priced carrier. Overall, though, if you are on a budget but still want a carrier for your baby, a Jeep baby carrier is good choice.
